Tune into Thermal Soundwaves show tonight, 12 am (ET), 9 pm (PT), on WHCR 90.3 FM, live online: www.whcr.org, featuring DJ Mars and Tai Saint-Louis authors of the book “The Art of the Tape.” The Art Behind The Tape is the first coffee table book about mixtape culture and mixtape cover art. Initially conceptualized by DJ Mars nearly ten years ago, The Art Behind The Tape came to fruition in 2014 following a successful Kickstarter campaign to take the book to print as a self-published venture. Upon its November release, the book, co-authored by radio exec Bril Ndayie and veteran Hip-Hop journalists Maurice Garland and Tai Saint-Louis , was met with great critical response and continued support from the Hip-Hop community; creating the best imaginable problem for a first time publisher. The idea began after Mars purchased a book on rappers and their jewelry collection (BLING BLING). He started to think about what other hip hop related stories there are that haven't been told. Very naturally it dawned on him that no one has told the story about the history of mix tapes, especially the cover art. Find out more tonight LIVE. Call in live 212-650-6903, tweet @thermalsoundwav
