+MrPotatoesLatkie You are right. I was just learning to play guitar when this was aired. I was 13 and this inspired the hell out of me by its pure rawness. I started playing hippie tunes from the 60's but bored on that. I liked some of the better acts of that time such as Thin Lizzy, J. Geils, The Who, and AC/DC but glam was more creative in terms of getting your attention. I found myself combing through the Import Section at Tower Records to discover British and even American acts that were struggling with American audiences. The British bands like Sweet, Mott, and Slade, along with the Dolls were my biggest influences. I lived in LA and the SF Bay area so I listened to Rodney on the ROQ a lot. Rodney Bingenheimer was the reason we eventually got the best music out of the fog.

Slavery was a horrible thing; however I did hear an interesting take on slavery from a friend, black man’s view point. My friend is an educated successful man. He shared with me that while he sincerely felt bad for all those men, women and child that were horrible abused during slavery he praised God for Slavery, I was taken aback at first by his statement, then he went on to explain. In his opinion if the white man had never gone to Africa to get slaves, then today’s black people might not have the many opportunities that they enjoy today. My friend then quoted a Bible verse. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

In times when it seems as if God is a million miles away He will show you a sign that He is near.  One night after leaving Viki in the hospital I was completely out of my mind, I had parked my car on the top floor of the parking garage. As I reached the roof I walked to the edge and looked down, for a moment I considered jumping off the roof, then I realize how much more pain I would be causing my family & friends. Crying uncontrollably I went to my car and started the engine, the radio was on and this song by Casting Crowns was playing “Praise you in this Storm” the opening verse says,

“I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say "Amen", and it's still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
At that very moment …it began to rain!  Some may write this off as coincidence, but I know it was the Lord saying to me, “I’m with you!”
