2) Most Australians can't understand why military-standard firearms are allowed in America. I get "The Right to Bear Arms" thing, but surely that doesn't include an M16 with more attachments than a Delta Force commando, does it?
3) Most conservatives no longer care about guns. At the 2013 elections, only one notable party (The Liberal Democrats, a Libertarian party with a very similar name to the country's governing coalition, the conservative Liberal-National Party) stood for relaxed gun laws. They got 9% of the vote, and most of that was because uninformed people thought they were voting for the Liberal-National Party. I didn't grow up around guns, and I frankly couldn't care about guns, And I'm a conservative. There, I said it.
From me, it remains an even greater concern for those children who go through their school years hardly ever developing such 21st century skills (including digital citizenship).
