I think the two primaries cost Indiana tax payers something along the lines of $7 million. Turns out they might have been a complete waste of $$$.

From Rob Kendall:

"Evan Bayh’s apparent return to politics is the latest reminder of the rotten way we place candidates into nomination in Indiana. Taxpayers are forced to pay for worthless primaries. The results mean nothing. Primaries are just fundraising tools, designed to bolster name identification at the public’s expense."

"In April, I appeared on local television and said the primaries were nothing but a club sport, and citizens had no business funding the charade. At the time, state parties across the country were attempting to change their rules to steal the nomination from Donald Trump. Some in Indiana were publicly plotting to not honor his victory. At the time, many Republicans were upset about my comments."

"Two months later, as Evan Bayh appears to be on the verge of replacing Baron Hill to run for U.S. Senate, some of those same people are now livid over Democrats play of the system. Pot meet kettle."

"Not to be outdone, Republicans may soon be doing their own high profile tag-out. Mike Pence, who like Hill, was elected to be his party’s nominee, is on the verge of vacating his nomination. Between the two of them, Pence and Hill accumulated more than 1.3 million votes. By the end of the week, none of them may have mattered."

"I am sick of the two major parties using the money of others to fund this meaningless exercise. I went to the Libertarian Convention this spring. They nominated candidates for numerous positions on the ballot. This occurred at a private event, without using taxpayer money. No one got injured. No one disputed the results. If the Libertarians can pull it off, there is absolutely no reason the Republicans and Democrats cannot."

"We have a system designed to continually protect the two major parties. They are allowed to maneuver as they please at the expense of everyone else. Hill’s handoff to Bayh is further proof the primaries should be conducted at party expense. At least then, all those voided votes would not have been on the taxpayer dime."
