Dare Conference organiser, +Jonathan Kahn , interviewed me for his podcast. We chat about the theme of my Dare Conference talk on finding your own rules for success, why I like Agile and Lean project approaches, and how I ended up running the  #Digpen web community

I interviewed +Sophie Dennis about redefining success by writing your own rules, the problem with waterfall, and setting up a local web community. Podcast and full transcript:

Has anyone any recommendations for getting content from InDesign to web (other than, obviously not having it locked away in InDesign in the first place!*). We have potentially several hundred pages of content to migrate. Previous workflow has apparently been to PDF the InDesign file, then copy and paste out of that. Nightmare of clearning up unwanted line breaks etc... Are there options or plugins I should be looking for, e.g. for an XML export. Anyway to make it a bit less painful.

* ps everyone agrees we need to get out of the "do it in InDesign, then migrate to web" workflow, but unfortunately that's where we are right now.

You may have some prep work to do in order to make the export happen, but it's well worth the time to try it out. I suggest taking a small file and doing what you need to it. Once you have something that works there, you can "templatize" it and (hopefully) apply the needed changes to the other documents easily (or at least knowingly). I've had to do similar things to other document formats over the years. Sometimes it goes smoothly, and other times it required a bit of brute force. Either way, the results were well worth the effort.

Small victories, people. Small victories

We’ve received a ton of negative feedback lately on our Girls and Boys Novelty Kits categories, through emails, blog posts, tweets — you name it. Today, I’d like to announce a change to our site — one that better reflects our beliefs: we have officially removed the Girls and Boys Novelty Kits categories from our site and replaced them with a single Novelty Science Kits category. Click through to our blog post for more detail.

Thank you for your feedback!

Web-Rover-1 aims to inspire the next generation of space engineers and programmers through a fun, hands-on activity for schools. We're now up for a People's Choice award at the International Space Apps Challenge. It only takes a minute to vote for us at http://spaceappschallenge.org/project/webrover1/ or send a tweet to @spaceapps with the hashtag #webroverapp. Your support would be awesome!

This was all built in a weekend by an awesome cross-functional team of +Louise Dennis, +Sophie Dennis, Ieuan Lovett, +John Nye, +Andy Robinson, Michael Shorter and +Andy Wood as part of the International Space Apps Challenge at the Met Office,

+Donna Wolfenden posted this really useful guide to some of the hidden mysteries when setting up Google Analytics. Part 2 to follow.

She's also posted some useful stuff from the Google Box of Tricks 2013 event which I though was of above average quality. A good blog to follow. Plus I can confirm having met Donna at some local events here in Devon that she is smart and lovely.

I've set up Google+ page for #digpen. If you're a South West based designer, developer or entrepreneur head over and add yourself to its circles.

If you have #digpen-ers in your circles pass on the link and encourage them to add themselves.

It's a worry isn't it. We same safe so far, but perhaps there's a critical mass of #digpen-ers adding #digpen to their #digpen circles we need to reach before the sub-space vortex gains sufficient energy to cause a rift.
