Here's A Graph Comparing Paid Maternal Leave Across The World
And here's a related article about +Marissa Mayer
' s latest decision not to let any Yahoo employees work from home. Including new parents.
How is this good for children, parents, and society? How are across the board bans without exceptions good for people with differing personalities, like introverts and extroverts?
I just read "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" by +Susan Cain
and think that failing to understand that some employees may have different working styles and personalities is immensely short sighted. Though people actually think more work happens in an office type environment, introverted, self-driven people can actually get more done when they are in quiet environments with less interruptions during their work day. The current structure of the open-office environment, where people can drop by your desk at any time and interrupt what you're doing, as is common in many offices, actually results in lost productivity, not gained productivity.
The main tip is to reward your employees for work well done, and to let them do their work in an environment which allows them to do it well, and not to dictate what that environment will be, especially when it varies from person to person.
