Pretty remarkable, if as advertised:
  1) Control of critical systems: transmission, engine, brakes, steering.
  2) Remote control of any Chrysler UConnect vehicle from anywhere in the world.
  3) Estimated >450k such vehicles on the roads.
  4) Security patch must be installed manually.

If this is all accurate, Chrysler should already have recalled all these cars for critical firmware updates.

To be precise, the story says they can so far only control the steering in reverse.  But it sounds like they can stop the car and put it in reverse, so...

If you are interested in immunization rates in California childcare centers, I cleaned up the data released by State of California (and editorialized a bit): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18RnWkwnORpi8ko4t_fMcv_QTEP1dfmD2qBbCUBdLwxE/edit?usp=sharing

In Vietnam no less.  Better ask the museum for funding.  I still have PFA caterpillars to dissect...

I think tented vias are also worth mentioning.  Some fabs do it and some don't.  I believe OSH Park can do it on some vias and not others depending on design rules.

Will affect whether you can have readable silkscreen over the via.  Also protects from unintentional contact.  Conversely, if you want to use the via as a test point then you don't want tenting there.
This two-part guide shows you how to design the perfect PCB every time, from pre-layout considerations all the way to manufacturing.

Happy to have my anatomy+physiology paper finally out!
Abstract This study combines for the first time two major approaches to understanding the function and structure of neural circuits: large-scale multielectrode recordings, and confocal imaging of labeled neurons. To achieve this end, we develop a novel approach to the central problem of anatomically identifying recorded cells, based on the electrical image: the spatiotemporal pattern of voltage deflections induced by spikes on a large-scale, high...

Caught a bit of this tonight; it's good.  Not surprising since the book is quite good too.
Your Inner Fish is a 3-part science series that takes a fresh look at human evolution. Join Neil Shubin for a quirky examination of fossils and DNA.

Just putting a shout out for powerline networking; I always thought it didn't work but it seems to have gotten much better in the last few years.  Had a bad WiFi situation in our new apartment and was feeling unhappy about the prospect of repeaters.  Homeplug AV 500 resolved the situation cleanly for $50.

I used powerline ethernet in my detached garage for nearly a year in my new house.  It was a little flaky running across the 60 year old wiring but it worked better than wifi.  Running cable is the way to go if you have the option but if not powerline ethernet is a good (if not great) alternative.

Pro tip: if you are trying to find a replacement for a TRIAC that is labeled MAC97A6 BJ101, do not Google for BJ101.

lol nice! I had a similar incident when looking up Python. It was on a corporate network, so their firewall block the particular site and pointed out it was an adult site.

That was back in 2002.
