I understand your point of view +Alfred Poor, but patent trolls do a lot more harm to the small developers by crushing innovation than anything else. Smartflash getting a large paycheck from Apple is only going to encourage the behavior, which in turn will cause that next garage start up to struggle even harder. Because everything they're doing to Apple, they do 10x worse to small innovators who can't afford to fight them off in court.

The best answer is to throw all software patents out the window. Copyright code, sure. But patent algorithms that are freaking obvious to the average high school hacker? No, that has to end.
