"Let us understand rape for the violation of human rights that it is, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity."

An insightful piece by my colleague Kate Muwoki, based in Johannesburg.

Feminist queer radical.
Introduction

Living a dream in New York City. I'm the Communications Associate at the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, tweeting, writing, interviewing and learning from brilliant LGBT human rights defenders around the world. The NYC Civic Corps brought me to this city after I graduated from Western Washington University with a BA in Business Administration: Management Information Systems and Spanish. My roots lie in Spokane, Washington.

A mixture of techie, info-nerd, and diplomat, I'm working to create a world where transphobia, homophobia, racism, and are non-existent and our institutions don't grant more rights and privileges to some at the expense of others.

I'm a feminist, anti-racist, anti-imperialist, queer radical with an agenda.

When I was looking for a new acupuncturist in July I called Vida based on their glowing reviews--I'm so happy I did! Both Dr. Choi and Dr. Chong are personable, excellent listeners, and masters of their practice. I experienced relief from the aches that caused me to schedule my first appointment with just a couple of treatments. I go back regularly for relaxation and a "tune up". Tonight I had my first massage session with Lacey and she uncovered knots in muscles I didn't even know were sore. Can't wait to see her again. Also, special shout out to Destiny at the front desk because she's always awesome and puts a smile on my face from the moment I walk in the door. Thank you, Vida!

Even on a busy Saturday morning, Linda got us checked in and on the road in no time. They have new cargo vans, which have way better mirrors and visibility than an older model I'd rented before.

Friendly service and a small, but delicious dinner menu, though mostly meat-focused.

Went for a late afternoon lunch and everyone loved their meals. Big portions, great service, plus delicious potato (tots, truffle fries, and sweet potatoes) options on the side.
