I had a driver come in for a DOT physical exam yesterday. I had seen him in 2014 and during the exam I detected a mummer in his heart valve. I gave him 3 months to get it evaluated by his Medical provider. Indeed he had a defective heart valve that could have ended his life abruptly. Open heart surgery on an urgent basis corrected his problem. He is grateful that a routine DOT exam may have saved his life.

I found a driver last month whose urinalysis tested positive for sugar in the urine, that is a serious finding and requires evaluation.

In my opinion the most appropriate testing is a blood test called glycosylated hemoglobin or hemoglobin A-1 C.  to read more about this condition please go to my blog by clicking the link below and look for the July 24 2015 post.
