30 years on!

On 3 November 1987, three ex-RAF chaps established Pilotwise; today we are happy to announce we have been operating successfully for 30 years.

Our company has come a long way since then and delivered high quality training support throughout our time. Whilst we have had a few changes of faces within the company, we have always offered world-class training design and supporting courseware both at home and around the globe. We have supported 26 air forces, FTSE 100/250 companies, charities and other public and private sector bodies. We’ve also expanded our offerings recently into the small unmanned aircraft sector.

We have moved from paper-based learning material to interactive, electronic learning methods with state-of-the-art graphics and animation, and we are looking forward to the next 30 years and seeing where technology takes us next.

Happy birthday us!

D-1 and Drone Magazine November 2017

For the past year we have been designing, developing and testing the newest addition to the Pilotwise portfolio.

Our first drone, D-1, is undergoing operational conversion to make it market ready and has already achieved a flight time of 1 hour 39 seconds on one single battery charge carrying a Go Pro camera. It is capable of carrying up to 1.5 kg payload, whilst staying under 7 kg take-off weight, and has been flown and tested in winds of up to 25 knots (47 km/h) and flown in rain. It has also been proven to have controlled flight when one engine is inoperative.

D-1 has been through rigorous testing in order to achieve and prove capability and reliability. We’ve achieved the best possible specifications with the current technology available at an affordable price for customers and have even commanded our first sale ahead of the finished version.

Our D-1 story has recently been featured in the November 2017 edition of Drone Magazine, out now to buy.

Design and Development of electronic Checklists for Cycle Team Endeavour
in RAAM

Pilotwise has supported Team Endeavour which is a cycling team that has just completed the 2017 Race Across America, also known as ‘world’s toughest bicycle race’. This race pushes the ultra-cyclists to their limits physically and mentally. The team was looking for all advantages to support them in this gruelling event and Pilotwise supplied electronic, interactive checklists to help standardise their procedures for time-efficiency and ensure adherence to all rules.

The race started in Oceanside on the west coast of America, under one of the longest piers in California, spanned 3100 miles, climbed 175,000 feet, crossed 12 states and finished in Annapolis, Maryland, the east coast sailing mecca. Team Endeavour was raising money for End Child Prostitution And Trafficking (ECPAT) and completed the event in an amazing 8 days 5 hours and 14 minutes, averaging nearly 16mph continuously.

Flyby Technology in partnership with Pilotwise has just been awarded the CAA’s National Qualified Entity status to deliver accredited drone training for Permission for Aerial Work. Our training will improve operational effectiveness, efficiency and safety and teach how to fly within the regulatory framework. There are also courses for the recreational flyer aimed at increasing confidence and safety. The CAA audited our set-up thoroughly last Thursday and has already granted us our official NQE status. Pilotwise has just returned from delivering a week-long safety seminar in China. Two of the team, with one member of the contracting company, produced a seminar to provide an introduction to western safety management set around ICAO principles and providing recent context and examples from the RAF post the Nimrod accident. The credibility and experience of the 3 presenters enhanced what was a comprehensive and professionally-delivered course that was very well-received.
