Nostalgic for the Windows 7 Start menu?

Stardock, makers of WindowBlinds, have come out with a utility to bring back the start menu to Windows 8 Beta!

It was only a matter of time before someone did it.

That's pretty incredible for a stated unfinished product, let alone an operating system.
Hopefully those downloads are from IT pros and not too many curious end users or there could be some potential for some confused and unhappy Windows customers!

Neat infographic showing some of Windows 8's new features.

Will be posting some galleries and/or videos tomorrow of some of the more useful ones.

On the topic of Windows 8 "sleep mode", "hibernation", "hybrid mode" vs boot times in Windows 7 and 8 Beta.

I'm partial to sleep mode in Windows 7 but Windows 8 boots so fast it almost doesn't matter. 5 seconds perhaps its all it takes now with a middle of the road single SSD, vs about 12-15 seconds with Windows 7 using 4x the hard drive bandwidth at it's disposal.

I purchased a 60GB Agility 3 SATAIII drive the other day to put Windows 8 on and dual boot to both evaluate that experience, get some real benchmarks and test drivers. So far, not too much trouble. Popped in the drive, installed Windows 8 and upon reboot I almost thought it killed my Windows 7 install because I saw the fish. But upon waiting a little longer, a new Windows 8 GUI boot loader showed up and I was able to chose, phew.

All my devices work with Windows 7 x64 drivers, including my RAID array which shows up as D:\ in Windows 8, which was also somewhat worrying; until I rebooted into 7 to find C:\ was my 2x 120gb Kingston HyperX RAID0 array once more and W:\ (formatted to be as such initially) was indeed my Agility 3 with Windows 8 on it. Certainly not used to that when multi-booting, pretty cool that it does that dynamically.

The only system driver that I have that is Windows 8 compatible are my Nvidia drivers for my SLI GTX 460s. It's a beta driver but seems to work OK so far.

The issue I'm running into right now, that I didn't run into while virtualizing the OS is that then I move my mouse to the left or right edge of the screen to bring up the menu systems, it's freezes for perhaps 30 seconds, lets go, freezes again, 3-4 times before the menu opens or I quickly move away. Since I didn't get it in the VM I suspect it's driver related but I can;t be sure. Anyone else experience this?
