In 2011, the US government acquired Video Synopsis technology from the Jerusalem-based startup that created it, BriefCam.

The technology, which helped Norwegian authorities find mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik, separates a static background from a dynamic foreground, superimposing events in a way that an hour of activity can be viewed in just one minute.

The death toll from the building collapse in Bangladesh has topped more than 500, making it the deadliest disaster in the country's $20 billion-a-year garment industry. I'm very very excited to share the latest project I've been working on with GlobalPost's amazing Myanmar reporting team!

When we think of GIFS we usually think Buzzfeed or humor – not serious news topics. I think this project is a great example of how GIFS should be used for online journalism and hope you guys enjoy it!
