Rubbish! Money does not fall from the sky. It comes from those of us who work. A person making minimum wage is unskilled labor. Their only value to the companies they work for is their time.
And this idea that meals will only go up a few pennies is preposterous. It MIGHT true for say companies like McDonald's who can absorb the cost of paying higher minimum wages through selling more food (productivity). This is not always the case with real restaurants like the Mom & Pop joints which sell food far superior in quality to McDonald's.
The fact, as been proven time and time again, is that prices for everything will go up. There are no logical arguments that this will not happen. It has always happened. Say the minimum wage goes up to $9/hr. Prices for everything will go up not only to absorb the cost of paying higher minimum wages but also due to more demand for goods and services.
The government needs to leave business the hell alone in regards to what they pay their workers. Let business decide. They are better at it. Look back to the 1910s before there was a federal minimum wage. Ford was making so many great cars that the company offered its employees $5/day for less work per day which was a lot of money back then for skilled labor...http://www.henryford150.com/5-a-day/
The only way to make more money is to become higher skilled labor. PERIOD!
