Day 2 of the MTN Ghana Code Academy for the Deaf was another amazing day. We had the students first recap on what they had learnt in the first class. We then had them brainstorm on the link structure, sitemap, design & layout and the content they wanted for the online student portal they were building. They worked in teams to design the structure of the web sections they had agreed on and what content they would present.

After each team led by the team leader, presented the final look & feel layout, content and functionality they had designed for each web section. It was interesting to see their creativity in their outlook, layout, content and presentation. Next class they will continue writing code (HTML, CSS & Bootstrap) to build their online student portal following their design. #signyourcode #MTNGhFoundationat10 #TenGoodDeeds #soronkoacademy

We are excited to partner with MTN Ghana Foundation to launch the MTN Code Academy for the Deaf. We will be teaching students from the State school of the Deaf in Ashiaman to #Code and build an online student portal. This portal will serve as a tool for them to share activities within the school, share great educational content, educate us on the deaf and disabled community. It will be a tool to amplify and give them a voice. They will learn a skill that will help them get jobs and become economically independent. We will have classes every Tuesday and Friday at the School from 2:30pm to 4:30pm for a month
We had our first class which was amazing. We had volunteers from Dartmouth College help us with the workshop. You can follow all our workshops by following #signyourcode #MTNGhFoundationat10

Well the week started great when I was invited to Alpha Beta Education Centres ‪#‎ScienceFair2016‬ to encourage the students to pursue careers in Science, Technology,Engineering and Mathematics. It was another amazing and fun session. I shared my journey, my success, failures and challenges. I also demoed an app that I built that teaches you to speak Twi. I had great questions from the children and they were just a fun and engaging audience. I also got to rep Vlisco and taught them that you can pursue a career in STEM and still be stylish and fashionable

We started our ‪#‎TechNeedsGirls‬ Roadshow last year. This year we rebranded as ‪#‎StylewithCode‬. We registered women studying STEM in the university in 8 regions into our Mentor Program. Our mentors and volunteers are the real heroes in our story.

We want to celebrate our mentors and volunteers and women studying STEM. We also want to ceebrate all our supporters on Facebook. We have the Mentors Day Out. We start of with a networking event on June 17th at Marvel Mini Golf in Dzorwulu. As you know yor network is your networth. This promises to be an exciting night. We are bringing women and men in STEM to connect with the who is who in Ghana. We have a Vlisco Fashion Show with support from Maybelline Cosmetics, netwokirng , mingling and a raffle with exciting prizes to be won. This networking event is FREE.

We then have special training session for our mentor on June 18th.There will be training on etiquette and customer relations, Python and Ruby on rails and hackathon where you win amazing prizes. This is our way to appreciate the men and women who have volunteered their time and skill. This is also to invite women interested in STEM to join the movement

My Vlisco Prêt-a-Couture Journey:

So yesterday was exactly a week since I started my Vlisco Prêt-a-Couture journey. I set off to the Vlisco flagship store in Accra Mall for the fitting and I was excited! Wow! I was amazed at the sight of my outfits. My wrap dress, lily dress and crop jacket turned out well. I quickly tried on the wrap dress and then with the crop jacket which were both a perfect fit, with no adjustments needed. The Pret-A-Couture outfits are all created to be versatile and to mix and match with each other.

So I can wear the wrap dress with or without the crop jacket. Or mix them with other items from the collection. My lily dress is bright and beautiful! Vlisco tailors are indeed true specialists in print placement – look at how they placed the pattern to complement the style of the dress. With just a few minor adjustments to the dress, I’ll be ready to show off my outfits to the world. What do you think? Do you have a favourite? #Vlisco #Vliscotailoring #Visitvliscoaccramall
