The happy hours used to be much more worthwhile. These days it's hardy worth calling it happy hour for what they are offering. Also they seem to have removed the free finger foods during happy hour. I'm hoping it gets better as the weather warms up and they start getting more people.

Only came here for a beer and bread pudding (odd combination, I know) but I liked the atmosphere of the little nooks with interesting books and items. The banana and chocolate bread pudding was a bit meh, hence the 3 stars.

Tavern 29 has a great rooftop beer garden. Happened to go in on a Monday night and found that they also have a beer special that gets you a flight of 4 draft beers (all craft) and a pint of draft beer for $12. Great deal. Servers were nice, but the rooftop closes at 10 due to noise ordinances in the Murray Hill area. Overall, I had a great time and would recommend for some quiet late night drinking on a Monday night. I did not try the food, but all the beer was cold and flavorful. I especially liked the Resin, which had a hoppy taste and a 9% alcohol content, which was very nice.

Service was absolutely exceptional! I took my mom here just as she got in town and she had her suitcases with her so one very nice waitress asked her if she'd like her to carry them up the stairs for her and she refused to take no for an answer. Once we got up to the roof, it was absolutely gorgeous. The perfect place for happy hour with friends in the summertime.

I liked the decoration of the place. However, the atmosphere is ruined by lots of TV screens showing sports and in the background loud music is playing. It was hard to have a conversation with somebody across the table. As a test I had an old fashioned: The orange seeds were not properly filtered out, the orange flavor was overpowering the rest of the flavors of the chocolate bitters and the maraschino liqueur. The drink also had to small and too many ice cubes. Definitely not the place to go for cocktails. For good cocktails try Attaboy or Amor y Amargo instead.

Tavern29 needs to work on their pricing. Everything seems pricier than necessary (at least they take credit cards). Yes, they have a happy hour, but it's not timed to benefit 9-to-5ers (like me). SERVICE: The first time I was here, my bartender seemed indifferent to me, business-like at best[1]. On my two last visits[2] my servers were on their game - can't remember my first server's name (he served me on the ground floor and made a good liquor recommendation), but I do remember Jacinta. High-fives to them both - they're the main reason this spot gets four stars. FOOD: Hit or miss - kind of silly to say for a spot with a large menu, I know - but it's true and a shame, as the DECOR is actually rustic cozy and dimly-lit. Music can get loud though. Gotta turn down the hearing aid. With a large group? Take advantage of their multiple floors, and a rooftop (usually open during good weather). [1] Maybe she was having a bad day. [2] My associates always seem to host events here.

Beer selection diverse and knowledgeable; I am experienced with beer and this was as respectable as they come. Food was very good and somewhat inventive, definitely well above par for a bar. I will come back again and again when looking for an interesting meal with fantastic beer and great calm bar with good music.

This is one of those places that you can put in the "If only they were in a busier neighborhood" category. This place is pretty cool, plenty of seating, food and even a rooftop beer garden. The problem is no one really knows about it. We went to beer garden one weeknight during the summer and it was nearly empty. The food here is good but not great and the drink prices here are reasonable. I'll be back again to try out their brunch.
