I'm going on an email diet.
What does this mean? It means that I have finally been forced to accept that there is simply no way to manage my email. Believe me, I've tried. I've marked all as read and archived everything, gotten my inbox to zero, only to have the pile continue to grow. A friend looked at my phone the other day and saw my unread message count and asked me if something was wrong.
Email is broken. It's simply not functioning as intended. I am inundated with mailing lists, things I have neglected to unsubscribe from, or I have decided to ignore. People tell me that I don't get back to them quickly enough. It's not my fault. Even Gmail admitted that their own email system doesn't work when they released a new app called Inbox that was intended to streamline their own system. I tried that too, and guess what? It didn't help.
So here's what I am doing: I am going to avoid checking my personal email more than once a day. I might not even check it every day. If you have a message that is urgent, please use another method to reach me. I am on Facebook Messenger. I am on WhatsApp. I am on iMessage. I am on Twitter. I am on LinkedIn. You already know that.
It's not you, it's email.
Thanks for your understanding,
