June,2014. I found this place on line to camp at while my granddaughter was in camp in Columbia. I don't like crowds am a bit of a recluse. This place was perfect. I had two 14year old g-sons with me. It was the last part of June. Everything was so beautiful. Carolyn is a super host. I think my boys enjoyed spending time with her more than they did me. She loaned them a pole and they caught a fish right away. Not some little bitty fish. A nice sized one. The boys played in the boats and we brought floats. They swam in the clear lake and had a ball. It rained some, but we came prepared for that. It is surrounded by water, so be sure to bring bug repellant. All in all it was a super place. Carolyn even let me take a much needed shower. We were there for several days. We had it all to ourselves till the next to the last evening. Those folks went way on the other side so it was still like we had it to ourselves. I am a 61 year old grandmother and felt very safe there. I would recommend it to anyone that likes primitive camping. Plus it is very close to everything you want to see on the Outer Banks. We will probably go back next year.

Pitched a tent here in October and it was perfect -- it was peaceful, affordable, very convenient to the Outer Banks, and it wasn't overcrowded. I liked that the site was primarily for primitive tenting, although the owners are super friendly and would be happy to accommodate other needs, as previous reviewers have mentioned. We very much enjoyed our stay and plan to return soon!

The bull Frogs are back in force at night and the stars are so clear & close you'd swear you can touch one! The lake has been tested & it is still clean, clear & continuing to supply the area with our drinking & bathing water! Would love to see everyone come back...it has been too long & it has been too long between visits! Carolyn

Carolyn is a most gracious hostess. Going above and beyond the average campground owner, she will offer up many amenities: use of her personal bathroom facilities, a seat in front of her fire on chilly nights and she'll even cook you breakfast (if you desire) in the morn. What a lady. I loooveeee dogs. As soon as you pull up there will... be dogs paying you much attention. There may be some gnawing on your hand or shirt, but I assure you it is love-gnawing. It is also extremely cute. My friend and I took advantage of the home-cooked breakfast our first morning. She had whipped up a huge ol' batch of pancakes, scrambled eggs and more than enough coffee. She and Itchy kept us entertained and gave us recommendations on where to go in the area since we had nothing planned for the day. She also told us to make free use of any of the boats she had (I believe there was a canoe and a couple of paddle boats) and we could borrow her fishing equipment if we wanted. If you're looking to explore one of the wildlife refuges in the area or the Outer Banks, this is the perfect place to stay. Especially when you easily tire of the cheesy tourist stores and endless amount of people that typically come with a relaxing weekend at the shore in OBX. Only a few minutes from County Line is the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. I would highly recommend exploring the area; you can do so by foot, car or boat. The highlight of this refuge, though, is the "Howling Safari" program that gives you insight on the red wolf population within the refuge, and an opportunity to hear red wolves howling. It's amazing. I'm so glad Carolyn and Itchy's place was my last stop on my trip home to PA from New Mexico. The amount of hospitality and kindness shown to my friend and myself surpassed all of the other places I stayed on my long trip. I hope to stay with them again soon!

If you have had enough of paying thousands of dollars to visit the low country of NC, this is the diamond in the rough you have been looking for. This adorable lake is teeming with HUGE largemouth and all sorts of other regional fish. The canoe and paddle boats are sooo fun as is the floating dock. Camp in your tent or bring your camper; the wonderfully hospitable proprietors can accomodate you with anything you may need. We loved our stay and will return often... JW from Ohio

Come on back & tent...fishing included! They are healthy and natural....Sad to tell you but the floating dock, sank but maybe I'll find another creative person like Itchy to re-create one. Sharing sadness...Itchy, Robert, passed away this year on March26th...he is dearly missed. Take care...come back & see me, ok?
