As the manager of GDG Davao, I am pleased to present a summary of our activities for the past year 2012.
We kicked things off with a Google Apps Developer Challenge (GADC) meetup in August 11, 2012. Having been newly-appointed as GDG Davao's manager, GADC was a great way to get a sense of the community and strengthen its membership. It was fairly well-attended with about 30 members in attendance. Google Japan's +Dan Delima
and fellow GDG managers +anne olvido
and +Jomar Tigcal
flew over to Davao City to tackle different topics on app development.
Next up was the Pre-Startup Weekend Bootcamp held in November 3, 2012, a week before Startup Weekend Davao of which I was also a co-organizer. GDG Zamboanga's +Jerome Locson
and +Rafael Oca
were around to guide participants about developing their app ideas as well as share techniques and tips about the pitching process. Most, if not all, participants ended up joining Startup Weekend the week after.
In December 1-2, 2012, we held the Sanitation Hackathon, a social good hackathon in association with the World Bank that aims to develop open technology to help address the sanitation challenges we face in our own locale. The winning tools developed during this hackathon will be used to overcome these challenges and will be rewarded by the World Bank. Our event was supported by developer +Pogz Ortile
the academe's +Ruben Canlas Jr.
and Maynilad's Ms. Rodora Gamboa. The hackathon was held simultaneously in five other cities around the Philippines - Baguio, Bacolod, Cebu, Makati and Zamboanga. With over 50 entries presenting via Google Hangout from all over the country, the hackathon was a huge success. Our very own Team Comfort, who pitched their app "Nature's Call", won as the overall champion.
Let me take this opportunity to again thank our members and friends who have been so supportive of our endeavors. Looking forward to another year of success this 2013!#gdg
