Pierre-Simon Laplace was a prominent French mathematical physicist and astronomer of the 19th century who gave the world revolutionary theories in celestial mechanics and differential equations in his five volume treatise:“Traité de mécanique céleste”.

His work regarding the theory of probability and statistics has influenced a whole new generation of mathematicians.
