Great family run restaurant! The atmosphere is super cozy and the staff is friendly. It felt like we were really in Italy. The food was some of the best Italian cuisine my wife and I have ever had. The price is just right too. We highly recommend this place. Great for a date night :0)

Used a groupon. Definitely a mistake as we were not treated the same as other customers. Horrible experience. Went on a wednesday night and the place was empty save for 1 other table. Despite this, she asked why we hadn't made a reservation...we said the place was empty and she went ot check if us being there without a reservation to an empty restaurant was okay. It was, but from then on it was as though they had done us a favour. We ordered and the food came hot and fairly quickly. The pasta and chicken were not fresh. Chicken was overdone and cut razor thin, causing it to be shredded and barely discernable in the excessive amoount of sauce. There was a sharp piece of clam shell in my fiancee's pasta and we would've returned it but the server was nowhere to be seen (despite the place being nearly empty with only 2 other tables full). She never once came back to ask us how our meal was. Worse still, one table had a couple of regulars at it and the chef came out to chat with them and completely ignored everyone else (how hard would it be to chat with all the customers?). To top it off, we paid the bill and tip (15%) and asked for change. The server left, got our change, walked back to our table and without stopping slapped it on our table and continued on behind us without a SINGLE word, let alone a thanks. We sat there for a sec. We got up and left with the server still in the dining area. Still not a single word/goodbye. Unbelievable. As a groupon, this is BARELY worth it, and even then only if you're wililng to endure ungrateful service. The pasta was about as good as you could make from a homecooked meal with a jar of sauce and dried noodles.

We found the ambiance excellent. The pasta is spectacular. We had the cannelloni con pesci (stuffed with seafood). The sauce was sublime. Our waiter was very courteous and professional. At one point the chef came out to ask how the meal was. It seemed more like eating in an intimate Italian home than a restaurant. We highly recommend this place for Italian food!

Seen this on Groupon, and thought we would give it a chance. When we arrived, we were the only people in the entire restaurant. The waitress, was very kind. There was a woman sitting at the back of the restaurant with a laptop who rudely and repeatedly barked orders at the poor waitress (we could only assume was the manager or one of the owners) ..very professional. The food arrived fairly quick, and was not bad. Definitely not worth the regular prices based on the tiny portions (average cost seemed to be around $17). Shrimp was small and reminded us of the kind you find in cup-of-noodles. When you spend this much on dinner, you expect something other than cheap cafeteria paper napkins and discolored silverware. This place is definitely trying to be something it isn't. When it came time to pay, the chef (and what I'm told, the owner) found out we had a Groupon and we suddenly became second class citizens. We were no longer able to use debit or credit unless we spent more money (apparently a $15 minimum). I offered to pay a fee or surcharge and the owner stormed over and refused. I politely suggested a sign at the door advising of the $15 minimum and he shockingly yelled at us.. "I don't have to post anything!". Bottom line, if I knew about the minimum I would of visited a bank machine in advance. Instead I had to walk to a bank machine. This restaurant has potential, but the owner needs a serious attitude adjustment and should probably stay in the back and avoid dealing with customers. Probably why we were the only patrons. We aren't returning.

Take A Sensual Trip To Rome…right on Columbia St. in New Westminster The experience enveloped us the moment we walked in the door of Aldo’s Pasta Bar and Italian Ristorante, with Rome’s very own Francesco seating us and melting our insides with his strong Italian accent. Wanting nothing more than to have us delight in the restaurant’s authentic dishes hand-crafted on-site, he proceeded to share his personal favourites, dishes that pleasure him and remind him of home. My dearest friend and I started with my and Francesco’s greatest weakness – the Tomato and Bocconcini Insalate…arousing each and every cell of our being. With some imported Italian beer and red wine, we lustfully devoured this plate of fresh mozzarella slices over rich ripe tomatoes showered in vinaigrette that we cleverly used as dip for our warm crusty buns. Then our meals arrived…two linguine pasta dishes smothered in Puttanesca and Clam Sauce. The Puttanesca was a true delight on its own, made with fresh marinara, garlic, capers, black olives and chili peppers. The slower and more consciously we ate, the more stimulating it seemed to get. The Clam Sauce dish, with sautéed garlic, white wine, fresh clams and parsley, and a light cream was comparable to none we’ve ever tasted…except in Italy my friends says. As we ate, she reveled in her memories of Italy, and the unsurpassed beauty of the people, the food and the culture. I, on the other hand, made a mental note to pull “bike riding through Italy” from 5th on my bucket list to 1st. I could see why this country was such a draw: the food is truly a sensual experience, an epicurean carnal delight that can only be experienced in Italy…or on Columbia St. in New Westminster. Francesco made sure all of our needs, wants and desires were taken care of. He also had no idea I was going to be so moved as to write this piece for their restaurant. Our exquisite adventure made it a challenge to remember that we were simply hopping into our car after dinner, not onto our bikes and continuing through the rolling hills of Tuscany or through the bustling streets of Rome. I found out the owner Aldo Zenone and his family have been serving customers now for 22 years in New West, and only create traditional Italian dishes using the finest and freshest ingredients…something that was evident with each morsel we allowed to slowly dance across our tastebuds.

Best pasta I've had in this price range outside of Italy. Fair prices and generous servings of delicious pasta make this one of my favourite restaurants in the GVRD. The cream sauces are especially delicious, as is the carbonara, and the pasta is impeccably cooked. I'm not sure if they make it fresh or not, but it sure tastes like the noodles were made only minutes ago. I've never had a bad dish here, and the service & decor is more than adequate. You won't be disappointed!
