Frequently Asked Questions

Q) What is "Restore the Fourth"?

A) We are a non partisan group of concerned citizens dedicated to restoring our fourth amendment rights. We come from all across the political spectrum, but what we all have in common is this: The right to be secure in our persons against unlawful search and seizures is a basic human right; a right that has been violated severely by our current government.

Q) Why focus on the fourth amendment?

A)We care about all of our rights as citizens. However, the same people who would fight against the fourth amendment would also fight against our other rights as well. Indeed, if we cannot be secure in our persons from unlawful search and seizures, then how can we enjoy any of our other rights? By focusing our efforts on one issue we unite ourselves with a common purpose that brings us together regardless of our differing politics and philosophy. This allows many who would disagree on other matters to join forces and stay focused toward a common goal.

Q) What can I do to help?

A) First of all, spread the word. The more people who know about this movement, the better. Secondly, Look Here for a list of planned protests, and please support those which are taking place in your local area.

"If You've Got Nothing To Hide, You've Actually Got Plenty To Hide" | Techdirt.com

[Excerpt]

...you're wrong if you think you've got nothing to hide, because our criminal laws are so crazy, that anyone sifting through your data would likely be able to pin quite a few crimes on you if they just wanted to.

"For instance, did you know that it is a federal crime to be in possession of a lobster under a certain size? It doesn't matter if you bought it at a grocery store, if someone else gave it to you, if it's dead or alive, if you found it after it died of natural causes, or even if you killed it while acting in self defense. You can go to jail because of a lobster.

If the federal government had access to every email you've ever written and every phone call you've ever made, it's almost certain that they could find something you've done which violates a provision in the 27,000 pages of federal statues or 10,000 administrative regulations. You probably do have something to hide, you just don't know it yet."

Let's show that we don't want to live in that kind of society either! Find a local rally, sign a petition, and above all, spread the word. Many people still do not understand the horrifying implications of a society without privacy. Your voice is far more powerful than you can imagine. Use it!
