Making waffles from scratch may take a little more time but these from Karen DeMasco are well worth the extra effort.  To make it even easier, a portion of the batter can be made the night before making the morning routine qu...

Soft, warm and fluffy, Pita is a fun alternative to sandwich buns.  If you don't like pita for sandwiches, just slice it up and dip it into some hummus or deep fry it into pita chips.  I used to make Pita  strictly for st...

Slow Roasted Leg of Lamb
Try It Thursday This week I roast lamb for the first time. After last week's snow storm, I'm convince there are only two seasons in Minnesota - Winter and Not Winter.  If mother nature can get her act together, we just may see green grass here by Mother's D...

Spicy Stewed Chicken (Western Version of Doro Wat)
Try It Thursday Doro Wat I have been making a quick and easy version of Ethiopian Stew in the crock pot for a couple of years.   While the recipe is easy, it's somewhat lack luster in flavor.  Since I've been making a variety of Indian Stews (curries), I th...

I've been using a lot of fresh ginger lately in our meals.  Ginger is both tangy and sweet.  It has a warm spiciness that seems to pair with just about anything, sweet or savory. I enjoy the zesty crunch that candied ging...

Most of the rest of the country call these simple treats  brownies, but here in Minnesota, all desserts baked and served out of the same pan are called bars (unless it's pie, but even pie can be a bar if it is sliced in a squ...

All American White Bread Revised
I'm spending most of this year reviewing and revising my recipes.  While the All American White Bread recipe I have been using yields a reliable sandwich bread, it never seemed to be quite right.  One of the things I've learned since beginning my journey in...

Everyone loves Monkey Bread and there are unlimited possibilities when it comes to making this fun pull apart bread.  While monkey bread is warm, gooey and wonderful, it's just too much for our family to eat in one sitting.  ...

This is a Tequila Bar so don't plan on being served a meal. The menu selection is excellent, if you like cilantro and avocados. If you don't, you'll have a difficult time finding something to your liking. If you are not planning on sampling the bar menu, skip this place. We made the unfortunate mistake of going for the food, which was good, but nothing to rave about. We went early, 5:00pm, when the place was fairly quiet. The service was terrible!!!!!! Our first order of "small plate" appetizers arrived fairly quickly so we decided to order tacos. Just how long can it take to prepare 4 tacos? The wait staff, which was never the same person, delivered our individual orders one at a time over about a 20 minute period. Nobody received their order at the same time. And when they did managed to deliver a taco, they basically dumped it on the table without any of the customary cordialities. It seemed as though the staff considered it funky to be rude. The attempt to create a "hip urban" atmosphere was over shadowed by the extremely poor service.
