A friend of mine wants to get a game (yay! I'm ususally the one buying games). He wants something different, so I figured that I'd ask here.

- Not too long (90-120-ish)
- With combat (ideally with miniatures)
- Dice Rolling (custom dice are a +)
- Not too $$$

I already have Descent, Wiz-war, D&D games and Chaos in the Old World that would meet the requirements. What would you suggest ?

Game styles are different: SDE is co-op (all against the IA or heroes vs villains) and AQ is "all against IA and between them". Also, I love SDE minis, so it's the one I have and don't regret it :)

Recently, just started getting interested in Podcast. I'm currently subscribed to Dice Tower and the Secret Cabal.

Do you listen to podcasts ? Which one is your favorite ?
Thanks for your input.

He only recently just begun doing podcasts, but if you are a fan of Rhado Runs Through his podcast has been good so far. He has done 1 every month for that last 3 months. The Wife and I love his take on games and we play a lot of 2 player games so he is right up our alley.

Just a digital version of the dummy deck and a round tracker. I imagine it could be pretty useful, cut down on dealing with that part of the components. I was going to try it but once I put Volkaire in the game I never went back.

Yesterday, first game of Chaos in the Old World. First 2-3 turns were a little heavy and clunky, just to get into the game.  In the end, I won on the last turn with the Nurgles getting to 50+ pts

Great game, but a second one will be important to really get the hang of it.

+Scott Olson of course! I also like that you can find a style to fit. Each plays differently.

Space Hulk ... so many versions (4). Which one you prefer ? How does this game compare to others in that category (1vs1 mini-based) like Claustrophobia or Dungeon Twister ?

I'm recently in a Warhammer mood, playing Space Hulk Death Angel and recently acquiring Chaos in the Old World and I was wondering about the old (and newer) game.

(also check the mobile game Space Wolf, awesome tactical game on Android, and probably iOS)

I've been recently playing wayyyy too many different deck building games (Star Realm, Legendary, Shadowrun) but it seems that I really like the genre. Heck, I'll even eventually get a copy of Pathfinder just to play with.

I was wondering what the community thought of Rune Age ? Is it fun ? I must admit that recently, I've been SOLO playing a lot and Rune Age offers both possibilities, and gives it a big +. On top of that, I got someone near me that sells a used copy with the expansion.

So, what do you think  of the game?

yes, but a deck builder is by definition purchasing new items to enhance your deck deliberately. pathfinder is an RPG, and your enhancements are loot you gather randomly. it plays very differently. we enjoy them all.

Anyone played Warhammer : Diskwars ? I've been looking for a cheap (sorry X-Wing) wargame (on an open area), that plays quite fast and is kind'of "easy to play".

I've never played that kind of game, and I was wondering which one should I get. So far, i'm in the Warhammer "mood" (playing Chaos in the Old World) so the universe is appealing to me.

Any suggestions or comment? Thanks

Just started playing SOLO games (Space Hulk DA & Shadowrun Crossfire). Everyone is suggesting Mage Knight. I have a spare table in my basement (so I can leave it there).

However, I have a wife and two young kids (under 4). and not a lot of spare time.  Should I really check, learn (and probably love) the game.

People have told me that it quickly becomes an obsession. I need to keep my family AND my sanity. Should I get that game ?

Another weekend, a lot of fun games played. Gotta say that Shadowrun Crossfire is AWESOME! I've played only SOLO runs (playing 2 runners) but the game is tough (and fun!)

Star Realms is a minimalist deckbuilder, that's quick to play.

Smash Up : still unsure about that one. It's OK with all the combos and stuff but there's something meh about the gameplay.

Red7 is the HOT filler game these days, my wife and non-gamers friends LOVE that game (still tougher than it looks)

Haven't tried playing Shadowrun with real people yet. The SOLO mode is just awesome for me so far (and i've never played any games in SOLO before).

Love the game so far.

Late to the party, but anyone loves Chaos in the Old World ? Since playing Space Hulk Death Angel, I'm looking around for everything Warhammer related, and Chaos seems so awesome, plus I'd LOVE to play the Evil Corrupted Chaos Gods ;)

Do any of you like the game? How long does it usually takes ? I would probably be playing not too often, will that make the game tougher ?

Another awesome weekend! Caverna might just be my favorite game of all time!

I'm not sure, because I actually never played in in 5 players. I don't even know what the 5p board looks like.

But to me it seems that the path is much more tied to one's hand. If two hands put two players on the same path for victory, that sucks. I think the cards are the weakest point in agricola, and also it's bigger replay value compared to caverna.
