Genuine happiness requires peace of mind or a degree of mental composure. When this is present, hardship counts for nothing. With inner strength or mental stability, we can endure all kinds of adversity.

When we were driving through Maine, saw the 2 best wordplay hair salons ever. First we passed Cutting Remarks, and then a few miles later, Curl Up and Dye.

IIRC, Curl Up and Dye is the name of the hair salon in Runaway Bride (where Joan Cusack works, I think)

Came home from a wonderful coastal Maine vacation to garden and honeybees thriving! There are so many bees in the cuke & squash flowers that I could hardly check for cukes without brushing one. And because i was too lazy to trellis they are taking over an entire 4x8 bed plus the (very weedy) paths. Tomatoes are finally ripe. Happy happy.

Matt made me the ultimate homegrown supper tonight: our own pastured-raised chicken (smoked with apple wood from our orchard), over salad greens from my garden, with local Cellars at Jasper Hill cheese, and dressing I made from local sour cream and buttermilk. An avocado from CA sullied this otherwise ideologically pure dish (not to mention salt, pepper and spices).

Just sent 50 (ish) chickens to be "processed." Yes, that's a euphemism. But they will be on ice in a little while. Feels so good to get that done! And a lot easier than the way we've done it before (see step by step instructions below, not for the squeamish).

Someone just sent me to this one but it is broken into multiple pages. Is there a one-page version anywhere? Having to turn pages when using electronic media is just insane.

I wish I liked the editing process more. I think I might try Truman Capote's work method - lie on a chaise and sip a drink (moving from tea, to sherry, to martinis). I'll skip puffing a cigarette, though. And yes, I'm working on a Sunday.
