Six years later and there's still no good way to report serious problems with the Google bike directions. It's easy to do it for car driving directions but not at all for the bike directions.

The following is a link from Inner SE Portland OR to SW Portland. ALL three of the bike directions options from Google take a bicyclist directly across the Morrison Bridge using a street route. The problem is that's illegal for non-motorized vehicles to use the roadway west of SE Grand Avenue. Bikes and Pedestrians may use the Multi-Use path on the south side of the bridge, but the way to get there is not a straight shot as shown in the directions by any means. Here is the directions in question:

Just announced to the XOXO Festival, Keynote speakers Dan Harmon and Adam Savage.

I cannot go and need to sell my one pass at face value: $400 (exactly what I paid for it). C'mon, nerds, I need a taker. Who wants to buy my XOXO ticket?

Calling all creative nerds. Andy Baio, creator behind Kickstarter is holding a creative conference called XOXO Festival (details behind the link). This festival is being held in Portland on the same weekend of another event to which I'd like to go. So, I'd love to unload my ticket to someone else – but I do need to recover the $400 I paid for it. I got it shortly before the festival sold out – which was only in 50 hours after the announcement. It's easy enough to transfer the admission to anyone that wants it (just takes an email from me to the organizers).

Ticket goes to the first person to pledge (and pay) $400 to me.

Some basic XOXO info:
****************

Hey Kickstarter! We're organizing XOXO, an arts and technology festival in Portland, Oregon this September 13-16th.

XOXO is a celebration of disruptive creativity. We want to take all the independent artists using the Internet to make a living doing what they love — the makers, craftspeople, musicians, filmmakers, comic book artists, game designers, hardware hackers — and bring them together with the technologists building the platforms that make it possible. If you have an audience and a good idea, nothing’s standing in your way.

XOXO is in three parts:
* Conference (Saturday – Sunday). Talks from artists and creative technologists around the country that are breaking new ground.
* Market (Saturday – Sunday). A large marketplace with a tightly-curated list of the best of Portland's arts and tech scenes, sharing and selling their work, with food supplied by the best of our thriving food cart scene.
* Fringe (Thursday – Sunday). A series of unique events around the city, including live music, film screenings, indie videogames, and craft beer and coffee tastings.

Portland's the perfect place for XOXO — it's the most independent and DIY-friendly cities in the world, which runs through every part of its culture. It's no wonder that Portland's one of the biggest cities on creative platforms like Kickstarter and Etsy. This is a great way to experience the best of Portland under one roof.

Had only heard of Path just this afternoon, but this is pretty bad.

iOS App Uploads Your Entire Address Book to its Servers

If legit, this is (putting it mildly, as I am quite tempted to smash my phone into pieces as I type this) infuriating.

I do not recall this being in the EULA. I do not recall having to get my friends to sign off on their personal data being shared out of my phone to unidentified third parties, either. I don't own that data. I typed it in, but it's not mine (if there's a legal distinction between types of data, vis-à-vis their "attachment" to third parties and the resultant ownership/stewardship of that data, then this is a class action waiting to happen, and if there are no such distinctions, in this new digital age there damn well need to be). The idea that my friend's and family's personal data, including physical and electronic addresses, birthdays, etc, are freely up for grabs by any app I load onto my phone is horrifying, both to me and assuredly to them.

Fix this right now, Apple.

I'm not one to push online petitions … ever. Until now. Corporate personhood is something I've been complaining about for as long as I've been able to vote. Move to amend the constitution to limit rights to American individuals, and to revoke inalienable rights from American corporate entities.

Cash is not free speech. Speech is free speech.

So my employer, Jive, officially and publicly came out against SOPA. Go Jive!

Okay, one might consider this a dead and tired meme, but it's so meta in this case, and the writing is so well done. It's worth another spin around the block … Hitler reacts to SOPA.

I'm experimenting with ifttt.com (if this, then that) to make public G+ posts go to twitter.

Hmm. 5% of the world's population is American, yet 25% of all prisoners are American citizens. U.S.A.! U.S.A.! We're #1!
