I was born in northern California - Nevada City, lived in southern California - Oxnard, until 1957 when my mom died. I went to live with her family in our "root" state of Pennsylvania. I left and moved to South Carolina after a divorce, and moved to West Virginia after a remarriage. I lived there for 35 years. I moved to Amarillo, Texas at the request of my son and his wife when my first grandchild was born, and immediately followed by a grandson a year and a day later.

I have worked in Social Services for over 30 years, but just went back to college to get a degree. I retired from The Salvation Army when I left West Virginia, and now work as a Supervised Visitation Monitor for a family services agency. I also work part time in a Domestic Violence Shelter, and have just completed training as a Volunteer Advocate. That means when someone is physically or sexually abused, I go to the hospital and am there just to 'be there' during exams and law enforcement's question. I am sort of their best buddy during a terrible time. I also do 'baby watch' for C.P.S. When a foster child is admitted to the hospital, I spend the night in their room so that if they wake, up, someone is there so they don't feel alone and afraid.

I am a Christian, who is proud to know that some of my DNA is also Ashkenazim.

I got involved with genealogy shortly after watching "Roots" when it first aired. I realized that I knew nothing about my family, as by then I was an orphan and always, an only child. I wanted to find my life and I have.

Jenningsville, Pennsylvania. We had a pot-belly stove against the frigid
upstate Pennsylvania mountain winter, no running water, and an outhouse. This
is where I lived with my husband and my two year ol...

SOUL DIET
I haven't written much for while. I've written, but nothing that I wanted others to read. Many of you know that my family has been in crisis mode for several years now. Most of my thoughts have centered on survival; very few thoughts have been on making my ...

THE GROUP
For over 2 1/2 years, one Thursday a month, I attend a group. You can call it a meeting or therapy - in this instance, the definition could be either. We are daughters, fiances, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, and children of someone who as broken th...
