Workshop on Software Composable Infrastructure (SCI)
In conjunction with HiPC 2016
19 December 2016
Hyderabad International Conference Centre, Hyderabad, India

Call for Papers: https://t.co/gUvPDgeNYD

An increasing variety of applications are moving into the data center, each with their own infrastructure requirements. Some applications require support for predictable low latency processing, others run in the background crunching huge datasets. Some are compute intensive and some require huge amounts of memory. Still other applications may require their data and processing to be co-located. From a datacenter operator perspective, a major challenge is to use the same resources to efficiently support such a diverse set of applications.

Composable software-defined infrastructure (SDI) is an emerging approach to address these requirements that is being leveraged in industry initiatives such as Facebook’s Open Compute Initiative, Intel’s Rack Scale architecture etc. The development in hardware technologies such as silicon photonics, photonic backplanes, storage class memories etc., augur well for software composable server architectures. However, many of these technologies are still in their infancy and challenges remain in both the hardware and software system architectures that need to support, and want to benefit from, such dynamic composition.
Topics of interest to the workshop include, but are not limited to:
Low Latency interconnects for rack-scale resource composition
Programmable Server Hardware
Memory Disaggregation
Software Architectures for New/Poolable Memory Hierarchies
Dynamic composition of GPU, FPGA etc.
Fault Isolation and Redundancy Model
Organizers:
Chakri Padala, Ericsson Research, Bangalore, chakri.padala@ericsson.com
Umesh Bellur, IIT Bombay, Mumbai, umesh@cse.iitb.ac.in

Important Dates:
Due date for Submissions: August 15
Notification of Acceptance: September 21
Camera Ready Papers due: October 3

Contributors to the HBME 2016 workshop may choose to submit a full paper, which will appear in the HiPC workshop proceedings (indexed by IEEE), if accepted, or an abstract of the talk which will be presented at the workshop. Each workshop paper or abstract will undergo a peer-review process.
For each accepted contribution (paper or abstract), at least one presenting author needs to be registered for the HiPC conference by 16th October 2016. The contribution will otherwise be regarded as withdrawn. For the inclusion of an accepted full paper in the HiPC workshop proceedings, the camera-ready version needs to be communicated by 3rd October 2016 (otherwise it cannot appear in the official proceedings).
