“If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it ‘Chuck Berry’,” John Lennon once famously said.
Chuck was one of John's major Idols. John's guitar for some reason was turned Way down in this classic performance, apparently he didn't realize it? So, when he hit that little solo, it sounded fine, you just couldn't really hear it. I am in a band, I watched his solo a few times, how did he botch the shit out of it? This wasn't some Steve Vai/Eddie Van Halen intricate solo. A solo can be a series of strums with a waa waa effect pedal, come on now. Obviously John knows how a damn guitar works, seriously, I think he proved that over & over again?! When Chuck strummed his axe, it fuzzed & growled. Sound technicians. At the end Chuck hits some bending minor notes, not fucked up, his style of playing. Not everyone plays the same, boring. Plus it was just friends jamming with friends. Cool. Who cares about all the little petty shit!
