For the science/tech and competition geeks that want to hear about it from a entrepreneurs angle - listen in to this. Jason Calacanis will be talking about his views on how competitions can bring new funding, new technologies, and new ideas to business and startups. Listen in!

Speaker: Jason Calacanis

During this presentation Jason Calacanis will discuss how competitions are encouraging structural changes in investing, driving an evolution of media and enabling real science and technologies to manifest themselves in new products.

Speaker Background:

Jason Calacanis is the founder and CEO of Inside.com, which will launch in fall 2013. Calacanis is an active angel investor and has hosted the popular podcast "This Week in Startups" since 2009. After three years of hosting TechCrunch50, he founded LAUNCH Media, which publishes the LAUNCH Ticker and produces a number of events including the annual LAUNCH Festival in San Francisco. The Festival features 50+ startups that launch in front of 5,000+ industry leaders. Previous graduates include Mint, Dropbox, Yammer, Fitbit and Room 77.

Prior to that he was the CEO of Weblogs, Inc., a network of widely read blogs including Engadget, Joystiq, and Autoblog. Founded in January 2004, Weblogs, Inc. became a wholly owned subsidiary of AOL in November of 2005. Calacanis maintained editorial supervision over Weblogs, Inc. as a senior vice president of AOL. Prior to forming Weblogs, Inc., Calacanis was CEO and founder Silicon Alley Reporter, a must-read

monthly that chronicled New York’s Internet and new media industries, that was eventually sold to Dow Jones.

Calacanis is known for his insights into the media and tech industries, and he is often quoted in trade and consumer media outlets. He also keynotes industry conferences worldwide.

Loving this side of exploration too. Space and Oceans both have sooooo much to offer. If only I was a Billionaire to join them...

I'm not really an eco-freak or anything like that, but it is a little ridiculous the kinds of un-naturally things we're letting people put on our "food." Check out this story about one of the worst of them and ask the Governor to get rid of it.

I'm trying an experiment - to post 10 things a day and I'm rapidly finding out I just don't have that much interesting stuff to say. Maybe posting this on Google+ AND Facebook can count as 2.

[Science] There was a study that showed that social climbing can be detrimental to your health. Alpha males have higher stress hormone levels -- well, in Baboons :)

Lesson of the day -- chill out and stop trying to be so cool.
