I stayed here with a friend for two nights. It's VERY cute inside and very welcoming. Didn't meet a single staff member who wasn't nice. I'm writing the review because I had food poisoning my first night there (airport food), and I was vomiting all night long. Not only did they bring up everything I asked for, but (embarrassing as this is) I vomited in a paper bag and it leaked.. and they were so beyond kind about disposing of it and cleaning up. I left a big tip for housekeeping when I left the room. Kind of an embarrassing story to share, but wanted to share it because they were all so kind and helpful.

Here last week for a after work beer and social with colleagues. I found the venue very nice and classy. Our waiter was off though. We were a party of 35 and seated outside at reserved tables and he was unwilling to split the check individually or even into groups. This made for some confusion on our part and caused me and others to not order anything from him and just order direct from the bar; way to make us feel welcome and otherwise would have been a 4-star review. Besides while everyone else waited for 25 min for a drink order we were onto our second beer by ordering direct from bar tender. Parking is abundant and convenient in the Manhattan Beach City lot right next door for $1.50 for 2-hours. Valet is like $7 which still is a pretty good deal.

Shade Hotel is a boutique hotel located in downtown Manhattan Beach. The rooms are not large, but they are designed well, and with sliding wooden doors enable you to open your room to provide a visual feeling of more space. The room decor is well designed, complete with groovy lights and vacuum fire tubes. For cheaper rates, you can get the rooms that sit above the bar. Be aware that although they state the bar closes at 11pm, the bar actually stays open as people finish their drinks. It can stay loud until past midnight. There are two bars in the hotel, one on the first floor, the second on the roof deck which has a small sitting pool in the middle of it. The roof deck is often closed for private events, so it pays to call ahead and see if anything is scheduled that might negate your ability to enjoy that part of the hotel. The bars are bustling, with a mixture of locals and out of towners. It can be quite a scene, so prepare for sequin shirts, cologne, and other good stuff. If you're interested in staying at Shade but aren't sure if you want to, stop by and ask for a room tour, they'll great and give you an idea of the hotel. Pro tips - the quietest rooms are the ones on the 2nd floor as far away from the bar as possible. However - every Tuesday there is a farmers market in Manhattan Beach, and these rooms sit directly above it - so prepare for early morning noise as the vendors prepare.

Great find! Staff very helpful. Girls weekend and we were right downtown. Plan on going back this summer. The Manager of the bar was very helpful with us old gals when we needed seating! Thanks again.

Amazing. I normally stay at Four Seasons hotels, and this blew me away.
