Hey #UX  people! Is there a good beginner guide to teach new folk how to set up taxonomies?  I'm looking for something article- or blog-length, not a full textbook.

+Mark Donnelly so far all I have that seems worthwhile is book length.

Oh look the plusterfuck has invaded my YouTube page.

Now it's full of "$person shared this video" bullshit.

Dear Google: No kidding.  Either I saw that and watched it already or YOUR FUCKING UI IS SO BAD I CAN'T TELL WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SHARED.  So fix the goddamned UI already instead of having it infest everything else like some invasive mold species.

On that annoying "Home" etc nav pane that slides in from the left, waaaay down near the bottom, in a tiny font, is a label for "Feedback." Click that and the rest is easy. (You can also use #feedback  in posts, of course, but that's not a real dialog - nor is it a comm channel that might actually do some good.)

Feel free to send stuff to #stopfacebookinggoogleplus , too. Again, not an "official" channel - but I'd sure like to see a collection build up there.

I'm with you: there's a whole lot that needs fixing.

ARGH.  Gmail seems determined to force me to use the new Compose window, which is compost.  Any idea how I can get the old one back?

Dear Google: STOP F'ING UP THE USER INTERFACE!  Seriously, just stop.  It is not more clever or more useful to change functionality in a seemingly arbitrary way, destroying all the learning people have put into it.  Whatever improvement you think you're making, great.  Offer it, let people adopt it if they want.

It's like someone coming into my house and rearranging my workspace.  Yeah, it could probably be organized more efficiently, but if you did that I would never be able to find anything and I'd be just as cranky and frustrated as I am now.  Stop.  For the luvvagod, stop.

Has anyone read the book this is based on?  I have to say I hadn't even heard of it before I saw this preview.

I note it primarily as "here is another movie with a (young but not immature) female heroine in the lead". Also looks (afaict from the teaser) to have other women in significant roles, which means it might pass both the Bechdel and Mori tests.

Though the bit where the square-jawed Aryan is promising not to let the bad guys kill her is... disappointing.

We seem to have no shortage of male protagonists with emotional depth that isn't borne out of a romantic relationship, but don't seem to know how to write emotional complexity for a female lead without making her dependent on a relationship with a man. That's the smoking gun.

Looking for advice on what to do about the kids' PC.  About 6 weeks ago I paid $200 to have it virus cleaned.  The repair place said that was the source of the video problems (intermittent shut-off while in operation, requiring machine shut-down and cool-off).

Having it virus-cleaned did not stop the problems, though it made them less frequent right up 'till this week when the video wouldn't come on, even after machine reboot.

Now the repair place says it's another virus for which they want another $200 to clean the machine. They claim to have run stress tests on the video overnight and found no problems with the hardware or software.  The video always starts up perfectly for them.

It's possible there's some problem with the kid's monitor (or the connection between the PC and their monitor) but I think the monitor is OK.  I don't have a new one I can swap in and I'm not sure a simple test would catch an intermittent problem.

I'm really reluctant to throw another $200 at this problem, particularly since I don't fully believe that'll solve the issue.  But maybe it will.  So, looking for feedback.

+Jonah Safar I'll need to get the box back from the repair place tomorrow.  I should be able to pull the Dell ID off it then.

Hey Googlers (I can't even keep track of who in my circles works there now). I need to find someone at Google who can help me with (commercial) redistribution of the Google Chrome Frame.

If you go to http://www.google.com/chromeframe/intl/en/eula_text.html then you get told that this is possible if you sign a license agreement.

If you look at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/google-chrome-frame/FeUAXCbt3k8/_NVLh_vIwOIJ you can see a thread that involves one Robert Shield (whom I cannot seem to plus-name here, identified as a "Chrome Engineer") where he seems to indicate that this is possible, but again with no details on whom to contact if one wants to do this.

Halp?

+Paul Kinlan Thank you for the quick response. The company I work for is developing a commercial Web application. In order to support it in IE we are using GCF.  We understand that Google is no longer supporting/distributing this component, which is fine. We believe that the EULA will allow us to do the distribution and support if we execute the right agreement with Google.  We'd like to find the right person to speak with about that.

Basically our lawyers would like to talk to your lawyers, sign the appropriate paperwork, and ensure everything is above-board and kosher.
