Flour + Water is one of the more authentic, Napoleon-style (thin crust) pizza's in the city. The crust may be the best in the city and their ingredients are fresh and interesting. The overall pizza experience is great. I haven't had anything else on the menu. Nice wine list. They also host events which, although I have never been to one, look like a great time. It is a nice ambiance and a a higher end restaurant.

flour + water was a huge letdown for me. I had been wanting to eat here for years and years, and was so excited that i got a reservation for me and my girlfriend. the pastas were not flavorful, and the texture that i expect in a fresh, homemade pasta just wasn't there. just another disappointing italian restaurant in sf. i still don't quite get why people rave about this place.

Flour + Water was a big let-down. I tried for months to get a table to celebrate my birthday, but once I got there I had no idea why this place is so hip. The food was meh, portions were small, prices were high. The whole atmosphere was very pretentious. And one weird little thing: all the water / water glasses smelled funny, like stale pipes or an ice machine that needed cleaning. However, the service was very good, our waitress was attentive and polite. Still won't be going back - the crowds can have this place to themselves.

Pros: - potato (patata) pizza was bomb (delicious cheese, doughy crust mmm) - eggplant pasta (kind of like ravioli-- very creamy and rich) - chocolate budino (flavorful and creamy without being heavy) - attentive service: our glasses were never empty and empty dishes were removed promptly - duck liver mousse was really smooth and salty (in a good way) Not the best I've ever had but probably top 3 Cons: - food arrived fairly slowly. I think they were trying to pace our meal because we were a group of 5 and having a good time. But I wish the time between dishes was a little less Note: I had heard stories about groups being turned away because they were a few minutes late to their reservation, so I was a little frightened when 1 of my group members was a little late. But we explained our situation to the hostess and she very kindly said that it was not a problem and she would sit us when everyone arrived. Bottom line: pizza crust was incredible-- soft, chewy, and doughy, with tiny bits charred. I will definitely return for the pizza. The rest of the food was great, just not as memorable as the dough. What a let down. I was very excited about this restaurant having heard so many good things about it but it turned out to be a mediocre experience at best. Food quality: average or below. Small portions, overly salty, too much oil. Forget your authentic italian cuisine expectations- this is a pretentious, overpriced and poorly decorated place that serves food dramatically blow standard. What I hated the most was the service- obnoxious and patronizing. Never going back.

Pretty easy to get in since we got there early. Menu is different every day but the food we had was awesome. Great flavors and not over the top fancy. Pasta was the highlight but solid wood fired pizzas too.

Incredible pasta and pizza, with some great dessert options to round it out. The duck casonsei pasta was out of this world, as was the uovo pizza. And make sure to save room for the chocolate budino! That said, I was pretty disappointed by the service. We had a 9:15pm reservation, weren't seated until 9:50, and weren't compensated for our long wait.

This place is a rare treasure. The recipes are truly inspired original creations. The staff is well trained and passionate about delivering a good experience every time. The food is just as amazing as you've heard and the space is beautiful I even liked the bathrooms. ;-) The only downsides are the crowds and the pricetag. However, BOTH are worth it. Enjoy!
