NBAA is coordinating with the University of North Dakota to conduct a survey on fatigue and crew duty issues in business aviation. The study will not only look at aviators, but also maintenance personnel, cabin crew and others. The survey is now open, and will conclude April 21.

Continuing threats of closure at California’s embattled Santa Monica Municipal Airport are upending one family’s lifetime of work. “Now that we only have month-to-month leases, it will be next to impossible to convince anyone to invest in us,” said Kim Davidson, who launched Kim Davidson Aviation more than 35 years ago.

Following a data-driven process, the NBAA Safety Committee has released its annual list of Top Safety Focus Areas for business aircraft operators: loss of control inflight (LOC-I), runway excursions, single-pilot accident rate, procedural non-compliance, ground handling collisions, distractions, scenario- and risk-based training and checking, and airspace complexities.

NBAA this week filed an amicus brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to review a Fifth Circuit decision on the IRS’s incorrect assessment of federal excise tax (FET) on management fees paid to fractional aircraft providers. In the 2016 decision, the Fifth Circuit upheld a ruling that monthly management fees charged by FlexJet, once owned by Bombardier Aerospace, were subject to FET.

With the need to authorize the FAA before Sept. 30, a host of general aviation association leaders today joined together to send letters to House and Senate transportation leaders underscoring “real and long-standing concerns” regarding a concept being pushed by some big airlines regarding ATC.
