There's a lot of power in Google Analytics. But is you're like me you get easily overwhelmed with all the data and things you could measure. I'll be keeping an eye on this series from +Google for Nonprofits and hope to learn how to use this tool to measure and share my nonprofit's success.

For the next two weeks, we're partnering with +Google Analytics to highlight creative ways it can support your organization. Check out our page each day for guest tips and stories related to Analytics. Here's our first post to get you started on creating a measurement strategy for your nonprofit:

When it comes to using Analytics, everything starts with the organizational mission. Once you know that, you can investigate the strategies and tactics needed to execute that mission or business objective. A mission could sound something like, “To improve the lives of those that are in need of stable, safe housing.” Knowing your mission is important because that’s what you'll measure and how you'll define the success of your strategies.

Once you have your mission set, you're ready to dive deeper into strategies for how to measure it. Stay tuned for more tips on how to formulate strategies to get your nonprofit closer to its goals!

I agree (my brother is gay).  They shouldn't be treated any differently than straights are treated.

Vine, Twitter's video app, just opened up to us #Android  users. Thought I'd spend some time tonight checking it out. Wow. That's a window to other people's lives I'd rather not open again. Have to look for advice on how to find & follow interesting, but not too interesting, people on Vine.

"The vote today to allow gay youth to become Boy Scouts may be a step forward. But until they welcome gay leaders, too, the Boy Scouts is missing a chance to follow its oath and be its best."

+ Washington Post on today's Boy Scouts decision. I agree. This new policy is still homophobic and hurtful to LGBT people of all ages. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/on-leadership/wp/2013/05/23/the-boy-scouts-leadership-loss/

Crazy right! You can be gay a youth (don't want to lose membership these days) but we don't think you can be a leader, role model or in charge of other's safety unless you are heterosexual. Beyond double standard.

Call your Senators right now & ask them to protect SNAP (Food Stamps) in the Farm Bill. The vote is today & I understand they're considering dramatic cuts to this program that feeds people in need in this country. Find out more from +Feeding America

I hate calling my Senators, but I did it.

Did my best to enjoy Seattle Beer Week. Loved the IPA sampler night at Elliot Bay Brewery.

I love the New Organizing Institute's Tip of the Day and today's is particuarly good. Great reminder on how subtle changes in the language we use can either include or exclude people.
If your job is to  communicate with people and inspire them to action then I'd really suggest signing up for their daily email.

This is on May 23rd and looks pretty good. I know that I get lots of questions about how nonprofits can use Pinterest.

The free webinar, “Pinning for Good – How Nonprofits Can Use Pinterest to Raise Money, Create Awareness and Do Good”, will be held at 3 PM EST and should run for about an hour.

I love a great logo! There's just something about good typography and layout. This is from a local, Spokane, brewery. And the beer was good too.

#Nonprofit folks tend to avoid corporate bloggers because it's hard to translate the 'sell, sell, sell' type posts to our work doing good. And yet there are a ton of terrific bloggers & companies that are sharing excellent information on #socia media & #marketing  that could really help our sector. These are people like +Jay Baer, +Francisco Rosales  and +Amber Naslund . This post highlights some of my favorite corporate (not nonprofit?) bloggers and companies that I think #nonprofit s should be following and learning from.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep track of documents when you're homeless?

When I worked with homeless youth we were ALWAYS trying to get their documents in order, since they lost them all the time. But you can't get any services, like housing or medical assistance, without these documents. The super smarties at Springwire are looking to change this by digitizing documents for people on the move. Please help them get funded by voting today.
If you're homeless, you carry around documents, photos, cell phones (contacts) and other things that are *really* important to you and at constant risk of damage or loss. We will scan/backup these imp...

Howdy! Essentially all you need to know about me is that I'm a pretty nice, and sometimes funny, guy who cares a lot about making the world a better place. I love my work, which is helping nonprofits & foundations amplify their missions through technology & social networking. I've always wanted to go to Fiddlers and finally made it this week, for not one but two trips. Both times I had great service and excellent beers and food. This place is really cozy and the staff was attentive. Wished we lived within walking distance.
