Homeowner Tip of the Week comes from Warranty Service Specialist, Mike: Remove Ice and snow from your driveway, walkways and patios as promptly as possible after a snowfall. Avoid applying harsh de-icing agents (such as road salt) as they can cause non-warrantable deterioration of the concrete resulting in cratering or chipping of the surface.

Homeowner Tip of the Week comes from Warranty Service Specialist, Patrick:  If you are planning a winter get-away, consider emptying the ice bin in your refrigerator and turning the ice maker off to prevent possible water damage to your hardwood flooring from melting ice in the event of a power outage.

Homeowner Tip of the Week comes from Warranty Service Specialist, Molly: If you are traveling out of town this winter, it is a good practice to maintain your home’s thermostat at no less than 60 degrees. This will greatly reduce the chance of frozen pipes should temperatures dip below freezing. Another good practice is to leave the cabinet doors under your sinks open to allow for warmer air to circulate around the plumbing inside the cabinet. This is especially helpful if the sink is located on an exterior wall.

Homeowner Tip of the Week comes from Warranty Service Specialist, Mike: Be sure to keep at least two new D size batteries available to use in the battery pack located under the gas fireplace to keep it operational as an alternate heat source  should you lose power. Do not store the batteries in the battery pack, however, as it may lead to a battery leak or rupture.  At your next Warranty Review – ask your Warranty Specialist about this or refer to your fireplace owner’s manual for details.
