Seasonal or rotating menus seem like a good idea, but when Tar & Roses takes away the squid with ink fettucine (best dish ever!), and replaces it with bacon carbonara, it's a sad day for my stomach. Don't worry though, almost all of the other dishes at Tar & Roses are still quite impressive, especially the charcuterie plate and strawberry crostata.

Hands down one of the best meals we've had in LA this year, and certainly at this price point. We chose to order a sampling of 10 dishes off their apps/small plates menu and loved every single one of them! Homemade noodles and dumplings that melt in your mouth - I'm still dreaming of the oxtail dumplings a day later. Every dish was rich and flavorful. Service was outstanding and atmosphere was lively while still intimate. Love!

Great blooming restaurant. Every dish is well presented and very delicious. Meat is cooked right and dessert is just a boom! Great winelist and cool vibe. And in end you will get a 'damage' on your purse.

I ate at Tar and Roses last night with a girlfriend and I absolutely loved it. The atmosphere is almost magical and very relaxing, the food was beyond delicious, the wine list was balanced and the service was amazing. I had the steak and my friend had the pork loin. We aren't big eaters, but we both ate our entire meals. We also had a side of carrots (which I am not a huge fan of carrots) and they were delicious. Go here on a date or with family from out of town. This is a west side spot that you cannot miss!

We have been regulars at Tar & Roses since we first stumbled upon them last year just after they opened. The food was fantastic and the service great. It immediately became our favorite restaurant in West LA. The only thing that has changed is that now you need to reserve several days in advance, something we frequently have trouble doing. Generally, we get a number of appetizers/starters, only very rarely do we get a main course. The menu updates every so often, but there are some items that stay on the menu consistently, or reappear every so often. That being said, our favorites are the cauliflower; the gnocchi (I am not usually a gnocchi lover, but I love these); English peas; whatever octopus dish they currently have (Perfectly cooked octopus, I especially like the current cucumber bonito incarnation); and they don't have it now, but the pear soup was fantastic! For deserts, when we aren't completely stuffed after dinner, the strawberry crostata with honey ice cream and the chocolate something with salted caramel ice cream are both fantastic. The wine and beer lists are also good. That is really just an abridged list of our favorites, we usually a number of other items. I recommend ordering a few menu items that look most interesting to you, and then going back for seconds on your favorites.

charming decor. excellent place to celebrate anything. happy monday even!! more restaurants need to be like this. from start to finish, tar & roses was a culinary treat!! =) as i begin to write this review, my mouth is watering...drool-drool...reliving the experience. popping corn - popcorn with brown sugar, bacon, chili. smokey and sweet! chili must have been quite subtle. mackerel - delicious and beautiful!! grilled slightly with shiso on top squid ink pasta and octopus - fresh pasta with aromatic octopus brussels sprouts - small charred brussels sprouts halves with crispy pancetta and chestnut duck leg confit - tender duck usually, we don't order more than two desserts for the two of us, but the flavor of the foods were so pleasing that we had to try more... strawberry ricotta tart - looked like a mini pizza. strawberries with a sprinkle of thyme on a bed of custard with a soft tart. honeycomb ice cream which has become one of my fave ice cream flavors now. heheh. chocolate layered dessert - hazelnut layer, crunchy layer, chocolate ganache layer topped with salted caramel ice cream. i enjoyed the strawberry tart more than the chocolate dessert even though they were both delicious. maybe next time i can ask for a bigger serving of the honeycomb ice cream. heheh. we were happy that we took the recommendation for the strawberry tart. so glad to have dined at tar&roses. can't wait to go back again to try more dishes. your bill arrives in an envelope labeled "the damage". heheh. this has got to be one of the most memorable of the year. love, love, love... =)
