Shaw's is two restaurants in one – a jazzy, sophisticated, seafood restaurant and a carefree, lively oyster bar. Both serve top-grade fish and shellfish, varieties of oysters, and sushi and sashimi.

First time at Shaw's and was very impressed by bother service and the food. Our waitress was attentive and very knowledgeable. My wife and I split the blue cheese salad wedge and it was delicious. One order is 2 wedges, so plenty to split. My wife had the filet and was excellent and perfectly cooked medium rare as she ordered it. I had the crab and filet combo. The steak had a blue cheese crust and it was great. Small but great. The crab was so so. Meaty but slightly flavorless. The Brussels sprouts with bacon was decent but not great. Enough to split amongst three people. The martins were also perfect.

Delicious sea food. We had a meeting here while in Chicago for work and the food was the main talk of the meeting. We actually came back here the last day of our trip. Awesome food, great.

Walking into Shaw's makes you feel like you've just walked into a classic old school Chicago. The decor probably hasn't changed..ever...but that's okay because the nostalgic ambiance can be a nice break from clean-lined under-designed trendy restaurants I seem to end up at most often. Food: Oysters are a must and the lobster was cooked well. The sea scallops were perfectly seared on the outside, soft on the inside. I could've been happier with the service. Wasn't bad, but wasn't exceptional.

Use this as your "special event" dining. If you know what you're getting into, then you'll love this place. You're paying for the higher service and high quality seafood. It's a called Shaw's Crab House for a reason. Don't go in and waste your orders on non-seafood items. Not that you won't get high quality food, but you're just not going to get the full experience that you're meant to receive. I highly recommend the seafood tower if you're in a large group. It's AMAZING! Obviously the crab legs are to die for! All of the food is delicious and you're waited on hand and food by the staff. They're INCREDIBLY knowledgeable about everything on the menu and the sommeliers are great. Also, they don't talk down to you if you're not that well versed in this kind of dining. My partner asks questions about the menu, ingredients or wine he doesn't recognize and the staff never make him feel dumb for asking. (I HATE when that happens at other restaurants. It's so demeaning and doesn't encourage people to come back... and will get them a bad review from me.) Weird note: when you make a reservation for a large party (10 or more) they insist that they can't split the check. When my boyfriend made a reservation for my birthday party there, it made for a lot of agonizing when it came to how all the guests were all going to pay. Needless to say, there was an awkward e-mail sent out ahead of time requesting that everyone bring plenty of cash to give to him.

Sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night with an insatiable craving that can only be solved by Shaw's. It's not about a single thing, but every element combined. The food is, of course, legendary - the best seafood in the city. The bar is well stocked and attended by well dressed waiters with bow-ties, and it's the only place I've had a Bellini that was accurate to those invented at Venice's Harry's. The atmosphere is classic and high-end, but lacks that pretentious air of a restaurant that's trying too hard. The wait staff are attentive, but friendly. I'm always sad when my dinner at Shaw's is over and I always look forward to my next visit!
