Quite accurate; the Japanese cell phone market was, for a very long time (and still is to some extent) behind the rest of the world. In cell phones! A market they dominated for years. My FREE phone I got for signing a 2-year contract on moving here was more advanced than any cell phone my friends or family paid for back in the US. But when it comes to smartphones, they've still a ways to go as far as domestic manufacturers go. I've been burned by the likes of Sharp and will never purchase one of their products again, and the HTC I have now is absolutely lovely. Japanese makers just aren't as on-the-ball and up-to-date as the likes of Apple, Samsung, and HTC these days. Some changes definitely need to be made.
