FOREIGN STUDENTS MUST BE WELCOME

DEVON business and education bosses have welcomed signs that the Prime Minister Teresa May is rethinking her insistence on including foreign students in the Home Office's migration figures.

For nearly four years the chief executive of Clever Student Lets, Henry Hutchins, has been leading the South West business campaign for Ministers to drop international students from official immigration figures.

The Plymouth student economy is worth over £305 million every year, and over £1 billion to the region, said Mr Hutchins.

"We must keep up the pressure on the Government so Ministers understand that foreign students are a great asset to our local universities and economy. We need this foreign student market post-Brexit,' he said.

The British Government is under serious pressure to change its policy following national and regional data that the foreign student market is worth over £22 billion to the UK every year.

CITY COLLABORATION ART CHALLENGE

First-year art students in Plymouth have been given the chance to showcase their talents in a painting competition - and will display their works to the public.

The contest and exhibition, entitled Collaboration, has been organised by Clever Student Lets, and Plymouth College of Art, with materials supplied by another city business, Mayflower Street's The Art Side.

All the artworks entered will be displayed to the public at a special event on Tuesday 12 March, from 6pm to 8pm, at the Plymouth College of Art. The show will continue until the 16 March.

The winning paintings will also be announced by a judging panel that will include Professor Andrew Brewerton, PCA Principal and CEO, Henry Hutchins, CEO of Clever Student Lets, and William Telford, Business Editor of the Herald.
