So, yes. This is what we've been working on for the past year.
It's awesome to finally be able to talk about what I've been doing at Google. It's even more awesome to have had the chance to work with such a smart, motivated, friendly, and enthusiastic team to make something that I'm genuinely proud of.
The app itself is pretty great and I use it every day. The thing that's most inspiring to me though is that it's also a publishing platform -- a place where anyone can make beautiful, compelling editions of their content that looks great on tablets and phones.
My friends and I published a small magazine in college in the mid-90s -- right on the cusp of the desktop publishing revolution. It was a game changer then that anyone could make a reasonably professional looking print magazine with very few resources -- gone were the days of cut-and-paste xeroxed zines. It was a democratization of print design that heralded the early days of the web.
For me, tools like Google Currents producer are a return to those early days -- part of a revolution in designing mobile content for devices that will help more and more people reach a broad audience in this new medium. I'm looking forward to it.
