My cat looks always looks quite serious, but then her tongue will get stuck out because she is missing her lower incisors. It's hysterical.

This is a great example of why you should never trust an infographic. This one is grossly, negligently misleading. You see, the size of a burger, for example, grew from 4oz to 12oz. It grew by a factor of 3. So why is it that the graphic for it shows it like 27 times bigger? Well, they started with a measure of weight, which is a function of volume, in three dimensions. Then they plotted that value along one dimension, the y axis. Then they scaled the rest of the graphic proportionally to that.

So if a perfectly cubic burger had actually gotten twice as tall, and stayed the same proportions, it's volume (and thus weight), would have grown by a factor of 8. So then it would be 8 times as tall in this "infographic", which means they would have drawn it as though it were actually 512 times as large as it used to be.

This is a disgrace. The CDC should be publicly shamed for this.

And I haven't even mentioned the worst part. The don't provide any citation for the data behind this graphic anywhere on the site promoting it.

The fact that people aren't noticing the glaring flaws is probably a great example of confirmation bias.
The New (Ab)Normal. Portion sizes have been growing. So have we. The average restaurant meal today is more than four times larger than in the 1950s. And adults…

Huh. I didn't really look at the pictures -- I looked at the numbers and thought it interesting that while the food got about 3x bigger, the soda got 6x bigger -- which is, IMHO more of a problem.

How often do you see people walking around mindlessly sipping at a giant sugar/HCFS-laden drink? I think it's time to start counting.

That looks like fun! It's fascinating how little you need of some colours, vs. how much of others.

Without pasta, rice, or flour there is a lot more room for tasty things! My spice collection is getting a little wild, though!
