A lot of the other reviews point out how their children have more focus or discipline or confidence after training at Murray's. What I find fascinating is how subtle it is. In other words, this is not the kind of dojo where all you see is discipline. This is the kind of dojo where the kids have a lot of fun, play games, make jokes, get to know their senseis, learn karate, learn more karate, and secretly (oh so secretly) transform. Mike Richards and the staff at the Irondequoit location strike a good balance between expecting a lot of their students and making sure those students want to come back week after week. Eventually, in small ways, you see the effects: a new kid comes to class and you can't believe how antsy he is compared to everyone else, or you watch how 18 five year olds are able to sit more-or-less quietly while each one in turn gets up to perform in front of the others at a tournament or in class. It's pretty cool to watch.
