WHAT IS IN THE BOOK?
Little bit about Des Higgs accomplishment for the Lord from the book.
On Wednesday afternoon the 28th December another miracle occurred in Brisbane, Australia.  A week before my 15th birthday God graciously pardoned my sins and Jesus powerfully changed my life.
A part of this miracle was that my father, who was in the medical corps of Killer Caldwell’s Spitfire Squadron, was enjoying one of only a few visits home from the war zone in four years. He was excited about my commitment to follow Jesus and gave me a new Schofields Bible and encouraged me to read it every day. Then followed four eventful years, as a disciple if Jesus, at Brisbane State High School where I achieved success in athletics. Hoping to be selected for the 1948 Olympics I was devastated when, at an athletic meet, I was hit on the head by a discus requiring treatment for a whole year so missed the event.
During the next ten years I was well established in business but not well informed about the Holy Spirit until a luncheon at which the two tradesmen spoke about ‘God runs my business’. Here I responded to the invitation to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit with no mention about the cleansing aspect. None of my friends in the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship told me anything about the significant benefit of the original ‘Pentecost’ which was that their hearts were purified by faith.   The tongues of fire were prophesied by John the Baptist and expressed the work of inward cleansing which accompanied this baptism. See Matt 3;11,12.
A few years after my initial encounter with the Holy Spirit (the baptism of the Holy Spirit) I met Dr Yongi Cho. He made me aware that although I spoke in tongues and had spectacular ministry I did not have the most important benefit from the experience. That benefit was an inward change of heart that would rectify my propensity to sin (natural or habitual inclination or tendency to sin) – my carnal mind. I did not realise I could have and should have asked God for this benefit of cleansing at the time of my initial experience with the Holy Spirit. No one in my Christian world told me anything about the change that should accompany this baptism as described by John the Baptist. It then became evident that the significance of the cleansing fire of John’s prophecy had escaped the notice of all the preachers
DRAMATIC CHANGE OF DIRECTION
In October 1985 on my way home to Brisbane from a medical conference in Chicago I stopped over in Sydney and attended a Sunday evening service where Ps Frank Houston was preaching. He did not know me. Then followed a remarkable event. The only prophetic activity of the service occurred when Ps Houston was about to pronounce the benediction. He pointed to me near the back of the congregation and said “do I know you? No, well here is a word from the Lord. There is coming a change in your life in the way of ministry. You will move with unusual anointing”. What did that mean?
A few days later during my prayer time God said, “Do you remember two years ago you prayed for ten thousand men to be raised up to pray for the Nation? Well you were not ready for it then but you are now”. That day I called up numerous men around the country who all responded enthusiastically. We announced a national day of prayer and fasting which the secular media supported with unusual favour. I knew then that God was at work on something big.
Then I moved in a new dimension gathering the ten thousand praying men where we were to see a continuous string of gracious miracles of men being delivered from sinful habits to victorious service.
During the visit of the Queen of England in May 1988, to open the new Parliament, 60,000 of us surrounded the new Parliament House for a 24 hour prayer vigil, which brought this event to the notice of the whole world
Later as a result of the prayers of 250,000 people praying, many people in high places who significantly influence the moral state of the Nation were miraculously improved or removed.

The subjects covered in the book:
PERFECTION, FREEDOM FROM SIN
Bless the Lord ... who heals all your diseases – (physical and spiritual). Psalm 103: 1, 3
This following study is exciting because it is about God’s quest to recover his precious ‘stolen property’, the object of His profound love, His creation, His beautiful mankind. Samuel Chadwick in “A Call to Christian Perfection” describes him as ‘a being of distinguished excellence and perfection’.
The study is difficult but immensely rewarding because it could lead you into the most intimate relationship with God the Holy Spirit that is possible this side of heaven. God is longing to have wholesome, clean and pure fellowship with you.
BEGINNING
For humanity there was a beginning, Gen 1:1, ‘In the beginning God ’
All beliefs and philosophies have this in common that they cannot comprehend or explain the (absolute) origin of all things, including the origin of God.
The Christian Scriptures unashamedly proclaim that the Godhead (God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit) the Godhead - was there at the beginning and created all things. God is ‘eternal’ that is having no beginning and no ending. Compare with ‘everlasting’ which is having a beginning but no ending. John 3:16, “whoever believes shall not perish but have ETERNAL life.” i.e. the life of God, not ‘everlasting life’. Eternal life is ‘everlasting’, but everlasting life may not necessarily be ‘Eternal’ life (the life of God). The life imparted to Adam lasts for ever either in condemnation  or in glory after judgement.
CREATION OF MAN
THE DAMAGE?  - The PERFECT was rendered IMPERFECT.
At the fall in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2), Two things occurred:-
1 Man disobeyed God. Guilt ensued. Forgiveness was required.
2 Man inflicted damage to his soul. Soul sickness ensued damaging and spoiling the image of God in man. Consequently all Man’s progeny would, by inheritance, be unclean, sullied, corrupt, imperfect, depraved needing restoration.
Occasionally I have pondered the immeasurable pain, the infinite pain of disappointment suffered by the Godhead at the fall of man. Here was God’s most brilliant achievement fatally damaged.  The God image in man was destroyed.

W H Y ?
WHY GOD DID MADE MAN?
Perhaps the most important reason for the creation of man is that God was, in a sense, lonely. He wanted fellowship. He loved His creation, man, so much. He walked with him in the garden in the cool of the day. How rewarding and satisfying it must have been for God to have fellowship with someone just like Himself. That relationship was destroyed at the fall and deeply saddened God the Creator. The object of His love was allured away by another lover thus making Him jealous. Exodus 20:5 For I the Lord your God, am jealous God.
FELLOWSHIP/COMMUNION
TWO RESULTS OF THE ‘FALL’
What happened when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s express command not to eat of the fruit of that special tree?
DISOBEDIENCE
To disobey God is an act of SIN.
WHAT IS SIN?
Unfortunately too many bitter and unnecessary debates on this subject have occurred through lack of definition.
THE LAW OF LOVE
Perfection in the Courts of Law is to be acquitted without condemnation. In the home it is perfect love and in the Temple it is to be entirely clean
Teacher, which kind of commandment is great and important (the principal kind) in the Law? [Some commandments are light--which are heavy?] 37And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect).38This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment. 39And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as [you do] yourself. 40These two commandments sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets. Matt 22:
THE THREE STAGES OF MAN (man = generic, human being)
Adam, fresh from the creative hand of God was perfect both in attitude and in his capacity to perform but not endowed with the absolute perfection of God.
The natural man in our discussion is not the Adam man. He is the fallen man.
1. The Natural Man –without God, the fallen man.
2 The Carnal Man – born again but still in Romans 7, forgiven but not cleansed.
3 The Spiritual Man – after the cleansing baptism of the Holy Spirit.
THE CARNAL MAN
For when we were in the flesh, the passions of sins, which were by the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
Condemned sin in the flesh, Romans 8:3  Are ye so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? (Amplified) Are you so foolish and so senseless and so silly? Having begun [your new life spiritually] with the [Holy] Spirit, are you now reaching perfection [by dependence] on the flesh? Gal 3:3, For you, brethren, were [indeed] called to freedom; only [do not let your] freedom be an incentive to your flesh and an opportunity or excuse [for selfishness], but through love you should serve one another. Gal 5:13,
The meaning ‘carnal’ in the sense of ‘worldly’, denoting a sinful lifestyle, is indicated in Rom 7:14, We know that the Law is spiritual; but I am a creature of the flesh [carnal, unspiritual], having been sold into slavery under [the control of] sin.
Dr James B Chapman in 'The Terminology of Holiness' , p 40, "Theologians have spoken of inbred sin, depravity, pollution of nature, corruption of nature, self, sin that remaineth in believers, indwelling sin, moral inability, besetting sin, the clinging remnants of sin. But back and down beneath all terminology, both accurate and metaphorical, is the fact of the sinful nature which, not being guilt, is not the subject of pardon, but, being pollution, demands purging and cleansing."
CHRISTIAN PERFECTION
THE SPIRITUAL MAN
Romans 8 contains the description of the man who walks not after the flesh (carnal man) – described in Romans 7 - but walks after the Spirit.
Christian Perfection
Notice that Abram was told to be ‘blameless’, not ‘faultless’, i.e. without fault. We may make mistakes which are the result of limited intelligence or limitations of other faculties. That may be a fault but we are not blamed by God, because blame is apportioned when the act is uncharitable; i.e. when the act is without the love for neighbour or enemy as in the Sermon on the Mount. God’s argument is not with our heads but with our hearts where we may be motivated by uncharitable thoughts. God commanded Abram to be blameless but not faultless. It is possible to execute some noble and honourable act of love in a clumsy way. That would be blameless but not faultless. God would describe that as ‘perfect’. Perfection, as described in the Sermon on the Mount, is about attitude not performance. Attitudes are determined in the heart not in the head. Love out of a pure heart and faith unfeigned.
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 1 Timothy 1:5. (KJV)
Whereas the object and purpose of our instruction and charge is love, which springs from a pure heart and a good (clear) conscience and sincere (unfeigned) faith.
1 Timothy 1:5. (AMP).
HEART PURITY
Heart purity is:-
1. required, God's expectation of us to be pure.
2 experience, the practical outworking of purity
3 provided, how He makes it possible to live a pure life.
God wants us to be as pure as His original man in his love of God and his devotion to Him. And since He has provided the way for us to be perfect in attitude (not performance) he has a right to expect us to be pure. That is why our purity of heart and life are reasonably required of us.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
(Ellicott’s Bible Commentary – Here, as with the poor in spirit, the noun determines the region in which the purity is to be found – the ‘heart’ as representing desires and affections, the same way that ‘spirit’ represents the will and higher personality.  Matt 5:8. (21st Century King James Version)
HOLINESS  IS
1 Required: we are commanded to be holy
2 Promised: God has promised to make us holy if we meet the condition:-
3 Provided: holiness is available
4 Experienced: the Bible evidence of others who have been made holy
5 Additional: scriptures.
6 Why the opposition:
But as the One Who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of living.16 For it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy.(Future imperative tense = ‘you shall have to be holy’) 1 Peter 1:15-16.
For God has not called us to impurity but to consecration [to dedicate ourselves to the most thorough purity]. 1 Thess 4:7.
Strive to live in peace with everybody and pursue that consecration and holiness without which no one will [ever] see the Lord. Heb 12:14.
6. WHY THE OPPOSITION TO HOLINESS?
(I) love of sin in the heart will defend the present condition. The illegal occupants of the property will resist all who want to evict them. The thing which needs to be uprooted from the heart wants to stay, and will give many reasons why it should stay.
6. WHY THE OPPOSITION TO HOLINESS?
(I) love of sin in the heart will defend the present condition. The illegal occupants of the property will resist all who want to evict them. The thing which needs to be uprooted from the heart wants to stay, and will give many reasons why it should stay.
SANCTIFICATION
Requires two steps:-
1 My consecration and faith (the human contribution), and
2 God’s cleansing by the Holy Spirit as described by John the Baptist (the divine, supernatural contribution).
The foregoing scriptures support the metaphor of the unclean heart which has been defiled by the fall. You do not forgive an unclean heart. You cleanse it - sanctification. You forgive the acts that result from an unclean heart, as in justification. Note the two different works of grace – justification and then sanctification.
SANCTIFICATION  IS:-
1 Required: holy living is God's will
2 Prayed for: God's people to be sanctified
3 Provided: shows us how to be sanctified
4 Experienced, the Bible account of people being sanctified
5 cAdditional scriptures.
For this is the will of God, that you should be consecrated (separated and set apart for pure and holy living): that you should abstain and shrink from all sexual vice. 1 Thess. 4:3 (AMP)
It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honourable, 5 not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit. 1 Thess. 4:3-8  (New International Version)
SIX THEORIES OF SANCTIFICATION
1 First theory - Justification and sanctification are experienced simultaneously.
This is contrary to human experience and scripture.
HOWEVER, BRETHREN, I could not talk to you as to spiritual [men], but as to nonspiritual [men of the flesh, in whom the carnal nature predominates], as to mere infants [in the new life] in Christ [unable to talk yet!] 2 I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not yet strong enough [to be ready for it]; but even yet you are not strong enough [to be ready for it], 3 For you are still [unspiritual, having the nature] of the flesh [under the control of ordinary impulses]. For as long as [there are] envying and jealousy and wrangling and factions among you, are you not unspiritual and of the flesh, behaving yourselves after a human standard and like mere (unchanged) men? How could we believe these “Brethren’ to be sanctified? 1 Cor 3:1-3
Obviously these ‘Brethren’ are NOT sanctified.
BENEFITS OF BEING SANCTIFIED
1 Freedom from the struggle with the in-ward sin-ward tendencies. Rom 8:2, free from the law of sin and death.
2 Clarified vision. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
THREE UPWARD STEPS to wisdom
WISDOM. Making judicious application of knowledge and understanding as a judge would do. Use knowledge and understanding to avoid disasters. Do not see how close you can drive to the edge rather see how far away from the edge you can drive.
.
Knowledge says ‘I know what happened’
Understanding says ‘I know why it happened’
Wisdom says ‘I knew it would happen’.
1 Wealth, which satisfies man’s desire to succeed on his own, without God.
2  Prestige, (reputation or influence arising from success, achievement, rank or other circumstances.) To be adored and worshipped in competition with God.
3  Power, to control and order the lives of others, which is seen in tyrants and ungodly dictators.
CONSECRATION
A preparation for sanctification – a process requiring ‘time’.
What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.17 So, come out from among [unbelievers], separate (server) yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not [any] unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favour,18 And I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty 2 Cor 7:1, .
Therefore, since these [great] promises are ours, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates and defiles body and spirit, and bring [our] consecration to completeness in the [reverential] fear of God. 2 Cor 6:16
5 Faith.
 (i)  do you believe that there is such an experience ?
(ii)  do you believe that this experience is for you ?
(iii) do you believe you have met the conditions of entire consecration ?
(iv) this is now your opportunity to exercise faith and lay hold of the blessing by inviting the Holy Spirit to sanctify you NOW.
YOUR PERSONAL AND PRIVATE SELF EVALUATION
Dear heavenly Father as I am being washed by the water of your Word which makes me aware that I need heart cleansing in these areas. Strengthen my resolve to lay my ‘all’ on Your altar and receive Your sanctifying  grace.
REVIEW:
It is clear from these scriptures that God wants you to be holy. Follow the path taken by countless thousands who have entered into this rest and escaped the bondage described in Romans 7. Seek the Holy Spirit with determination - ask, and keep on asking; seek and keep in seeking; knock and keep in knocking until
THEREFORE, WHILE the promise of entering His rest still holds and is offered [today], let us be afraid [to distrust it], lest any of you should think he has come too late and has come short of [reaching] it, 6Seeing then that the promise remains over [from past times] for some to enter that rest, and that those who formerly were given the good news about it and the opportunity, failed to appropriate it and did not enter because of disobedience, 11Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [into which those in the wilderness fell]. Hebrews 4:1,6,11,15-16 1
HOW I RECEIVED SANCTIFYING GRACE
But first let me tell you some of my own story, which is similar to the story of many others who have sort and found the righteousness that is by faith. 'Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness'
The year 1942 was full of miracles. We were three years into a cruel war which claimed the lives of 30 million people. The Japanese war lords were at our front door in Australia and the Nazi war machine had swept across North Africa. But by midyear the Allies had broken the German Enigma Code and Rommel had been turned back, and the Battle of the Coral Sea stopped the Japanese fleet.
On Wednesday afternoon the 28th December another miracle occurred in Brisbane, Australia.  A week before my 15th birthday God graciously pardoned my sins and Jesus powerfully changed my life.
