Friends from everywhere: Please consider getting involved with this effort to do something amazing. I can think of no one more capable of pulling this off than Ben Calica, but he needs your help. I would send you his way without reservation- in fact, I probably have, if you've ever asked me about games or where to play them in the Bay Area. This store has changed lives and become 'home' to so many people of all ages who share a love of games. There is nothing like it and without our help, there may never be again. Support & share!

back in cloth
When our older kids were in diapers, I spent a lot more time than I do now talking about diapering. Cloth diapers weren't as popular, and it felt like there were no resources or support. We figured it out–largely through the help of online forums and friend...

Afterwards
Karl has been posting about our new kitchen over at his blog . I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there isn't some magical week of rest after a project like that. Life goes on. I love my new kitchen. It's perfect. And I am getting to know it, enjoying my...

Viral
We've all been sick. I'm not sure how it started, but I may be getting better this morning. I want to be cautious about it because this illness, presumably some virus, has a way of getting worse when you least expect it. I guess I have only been ill for a w...

Weekly Check-in: End of March
In which we had Hand, Foot & Mouth and got nothing done at all. We had never had this one amongst our kids, and Georgiana broke out in it so completely that I though she might have measles. Anatoly ended up with it, too.

Weekly Check In: March Week 3
This was our Pure Week, the first week of Lent. We took the week off of normal schedules. We did go to the Exploratorium for Pi Day on the 14th, a free day at the museum. Everyone had the best time! This was the first time I had braved it with all the kids ...

Weekly Check-in: March Week 2
This is rapidly turning from a check-in to a rough list of things we did in addition to baseline. Maybe that is what it needs to be. Tristan: I can say with full confidence that the new piano teacher is the highlight of this and all weeks. I can't imagine a...

#tbt Anatoly, 4 Years Old
Here's Anatoly just four years old. We still lived on the farm. He's cutting (dangerously) his own apple at 4–a sign of things to come. Today he is 9, a fierce brother, foil fencer, artist, and reader. He's a self-described 'gunter  and his alignment is cha...
