Interesting perspective from Scott Sumner on Singapore. I was telling my wife today that I would happily move there if my employer asked me to (unlikely, of course). the portion discussing the surprising ways people incorporate their reactions to their ideologies upon visiting rings true to my experiences visiting and discussing Singapore with others.
I recently traveled to Singapore, where I gave the keynote address at the Asian Bond Markets Summit. (I'm told they'll have a video up in a few weeks.) I also had the good fortune to meet two of my mo...

What a fascinating article. Thanks for sharing. It honestly reads like something out of fiction. Not just that it's so different from here, but the extent to which it has such different fundamentals that it's hard to garner any instruction from it. I think the same would likely be true of China. It also touches on things I view as subterranean issues in liberal and conservative thinking. The discussion not always being about what we think it's about.

This video shows of an absolutely incredible Minecraft project - a hand-built full-size model of the U.S. Capitol building. What's amazing about it is that it was not only excavated and then built by hand, but the raw materials were mined, harvested or hunted in-game (by several friends of mine - I had nothing to do with it!), not created by server commands as with so many other amazing Minecraft projects.

Minecraft is simply amazing.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

I honestly had no idea Hum was still doing shows on occasion.

Is weirdly happy I got a Top Commenter designation at ThinkProgress, even though I'm pretty sure it's just because I've made some arbitrary number of comments at Matt Yglesisas' blog since they added the facebook social plugin.

Very funny tweak of libertarians.
Peter Thiel, the founder of PayPal and an early investor in Facebook, is putting $1.25 million of his own money toward the creation of artificial libertarian island-nations.

I was very much looking forward to reading Ready Player One, picked it up in the airport and was sorely disappointed that it was not nearly worth the hype. There's got to be a better way to write about video games and pop culture than this.

Today marks what would have been Bill Monroe's 100th birthday.
Here's a question, was anyone more influential to American popular music in the 20th Century?

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!
(I was so ahead of the curve getting a titanium wedding ring.)
Jewelers are shunning pricey gold and embracing cheaper metals like tungsten, cobalt, even stainless steel for making items like wedding bands.

I wish I'd posted my opinion that Groupon was a house of cards about 10 months ago. Maybe then I could make myself into a fancy prognosticator of the Internets.
