Kutte ki dum, tedi ki tedi. Resorting to his age-old "woh Pakistani" tactics, Modi has proven for sure that he has NO answers whatsoever to the actual questions raised about his own performance, allegiances to crony capitalism and real intentions for India.

This video needs to spread far and wide!
And the distinction between Gram Sabha Raj and Panchayat Raj needs to be spelled out correctly : Decentralization does NOT mean some sarpanch or small group of influential people become the absolute rulers of the village / mohalla. People keep citing horror stories like gangrape-as-punishment, honor killing etc as examples of decentralization of power : THAT IS NOT DECENTRALIZATION. It means putting a permanent stop to the very practice of allowing one person to rule over many. In a decentralized model, ALL THE ADULTS in an area together take all the decisions affecting them. They don't elect any one person to take all their decisions : they themselves take the decisions. And that includes the women. If half of your decision-making body consists of women whose children's lives are at stake, then how can such a body ever do the kinds of gory horror things that we see being reported from villages?

A brief problems-only history of post-independence India
1. Fossil-fuel dependent farming (termed Green Revolution) gets pushed onto the country's farmers in a big way. The country starts incurring major deficits due to this transformation of what was till now a zero-input-costs sector. 2. To fend off bankruptcy ...

Thanks for putting this out so clearly. An educational NGO I worked with, and publicly walked out of in a year, fits exactly this description of non-profit industrialists. They exploited my will to do something good for society and channeled it into something that would only strengthen the status quo. So many wonderful people I know are trapped inside such situations. NGOs in India are becoming careers now, with huge salaries being given to the management and the internal structure mirroring those of corporates. At the same time there are wonderful grassroots, seemingly "unprofessional" orgs doing really good work. Look for autonomy from funders in the organization you want to assist or join; and always keep the larger picture in mind.

Story
Introduction
Social theorist, feminist, Khoji. A curious person, compulsive tinkerer, status quo questioner and lifelong activist for all social causes. An extremely curious person and an engineer at heart, I've got a habit of seeing things from points of view and thinking in ways that others would normally never bother to. I prefer looking at the bigger picture in any situation, to analyse a chain of events rather than single occurrences. I've got a knack of absorbing all sorts of miscellaneous bits of information, and have become a jack-of-all trades of sorts. I'll go out of my way to help someone else, and that's one of the reasons I've started this blog. email me on nikhil [dot] js [at] gmail [dot] com
