Turkish clashes are really stepping up a gear, with police using water canons, tear gas and flash bang grenades to clear protesters from Taksim Square.  The police operation appears to be well planned and is being undertaken in a very methodical way.

After watching 'Question Time' last night, I have to say that I agree with one of the audience who suggested that MPs shouldn't undertake paid work, including consultancies, and becoming directors of large numbers of companies.  The salary of an MP is above the national average wage, and together with expenses packages, should be more than sufficient for them to provide for their families.  Long gone are the days where the general public are prepared to accept the very often empty words promising a clean up of parliament.  David Cameron himself highlighted Lobbying as the next big scandal to hit politics.  Why then has he not taken steps to deal with the problem?  These lobbyists employ various strategies to ensure that their clients gain access to the heart of our democratic institutions, influencing policy and furthering their own self-interests.  For a true democracy, it is vital that every member of that society has an equal stake - lobbying is not only undemocratic, it fosters a climate of secrecy and encourages people to act dishonorably. #questiontime

It is obvious to anyone that the music industry has undergone what can only be called a revolution in recent years.  Nowadays it is not necessary to sell hundreds of thousands of units for a track to hit number 1, no longer are the all powerful music labels with their A&R people controlling the industry.  Music today can be created by anyone with access to a home computer and the internet, and can be shared with huge numbers of people across the World.  The only downside to this new model is that the market is swamped by poor material which makes it difficult for (and I completely accept this is subjective) good material to be picked up.  The days of the music mogul deciding who would get in to the charts are very definitely on the way out - music executives are having to find new strategies and platforms to pick, shape and package tomorrows new musicians.  The X-Factor is just one of these platforms. #musicindustry
