If "the talk" is in your future, if you never got "the talk," or if you worry about the porn disconnect that is so obvious these days in our culture (and that so many people are afraid to talk about), watch this. It's under 5:00. Pass it on.

This is a great, short video made by young filmmakers and actors in their early days of freshman year at Emerson College.

Wow. I don't know if I'm supposed to comment here, but I watched this a second time through and saw all the detail in the shots and edits. Pretty amazing. What a team! Or, is this just what we should expect from here on out?

Entrepreneurship from One Writer's Perspective

I think there's an important discussion this should create. The best place to carry it on would seem to be in the comments section of this piece. Check it out.

+David Biddle More coffee for me--forgot it wasn't your article! I hope you are right about readers finding the good stuff. I still have not nearly adequately tapped Goodreads but I do believe it is a critical place for connecting to readers.

This is one of our great ones. Truly great for speaking all the way into the DNA of our loss. What he said of his life on this earth and in these Americas will never be said again.

Great Writers Working Together

This is an hour long discussion about a novel in the making written by these two great writers as a testimony to a friend who died of cancer. Fascinating, enlightening and thought-provoking.

True Stories of Serious Note by that Gaitskill Chick

Here is a smorgasbord of reading from good old Flavorwire. They have a "Longform" kink these days, which is super great because they're offering up some amazing writing and reading. That said, I do think it's weird that we need to rate extended essays and stories by their length now.

Entrepreneurship from One Writer's Perspective

Talking Writing is going to be running their Fall issue on the "Money" thang. This opening essay by editor Martha Nichols presents a pretty interesting dilemma/perspective for all of us creative writer types. How are we going to make this work here as we approach 2020?

Entrepreneurship from One Writer's Perspective

There is a huge problem if words are your means to bread on the table in these crazy times...being an entrepreneur and being creative often don't mesh well at all. Writers don't just struggle to make money these days, they struggle with staying true to themselves. As the author, Martha Nichols notes: "...switching so often between marketing and writing gears had affected my ability to tap the unconscious material that fuels my best work.." This is major food for thought for all of us.

Introduction
I am the author of two story collections -- Implosions of America and Trying to Care, plus the psychedelic novel Beyond the Will of God. I also write columns for the online magazines Talking Writing and Kotori.
Bragging rights
I am what happens when two university professors adopt a mixed race kid. Life is beautiful. Also, I survived 30 years on the front lines of the environmental movement knowing that I wanted nothing more than to write fiction that whole time.
