I heard today that Representative Ray plans to make a move to revive HB112 from it’s current ‘hold’ status forcing it into an interim study and he advised media today that he has been meeting with hopeful supporters to accomplish this.  Considering that this bill has seen 8 revisions and is rumored to attempt a 9th, this is clear evidence this is an agenda driven attempt to salvage a version he never supported and was very vocally against and visibly angry when it was approved in the house 2 weeks ago.  His claims that this is a youth prevention bill is far from reality based on the added levels of regulation he has attempted this year and with prior years.  In fact, Sub4 that was submitted by Representative Gibson and subsequently approved in the house was clearly a youth prevention bill by introducing age verification steps and one that our organization, consumers and retailers all were supportive of as it was drafted.

The House and Senate leadership all must approve the revival along with 2/3 of the floor.  Considering they have around 500 bills yet to even be presented and  considering there are only 2 days in which for this to happen, I'm highly doubtful anything will occur.  However I wanted to be transparent that Rep Ray is trying to give mouth to mouth to the bill which essentially died a magnificent death.  I'll be keeping close tabs on this over the next few days and will let you know what if anything we need to do.

CASAA Call to Action! Utah Online Sales Ban (Would Make It Illegal for Utah Residents to Purchase Online):
Representative Ray, a long-time opponent of e-cigarettes, has proposed legislation which he says is designed to protect the youth of Utah. However, HB 112 will not protect the children, but, rather, will--at best--dramatically reduce consumer access to these life-saving products. At worst, HB 112 will serve as a de facto ban on the sale of e-cigarettes in Utah.

If passed, HB 112 would, among other things:
Ban online sales to Utah citizens.
Require licensing of hardware manufacturing, retail, and liquid manufacturers.
Require non-Utah manufacturers (liquid and hardware) to align with Utah manufacturing standards.

HB 112 is on the 3rd reading calendar, and could be read as early as THURSDAY. Please take this opportunity to contact members of the Utah House of Representatives to let them know that you oppose HB 112.

just saw this... This is what the FDA is approving while tring to ban E-cigs...
Fantastic news for people who suffer regularly from migraine headaches. The FDA has just approved a wearable electrical stimulation device for sales in the United States — a headband that prevents the onset of migraines when worn for just 20 minutes each day.

Utah Action Alert: SB0012 Online e-cig sales ban

Utah Senator Stuart Reid has introduced SB0012 for the 2014 session which will have negative impacts on vapers in Utah.  If passed this bills will:
·       Raise smoking age to 21
·       Ban online sales to Utah residents of any electronic cigarette product

Senator Reid has included language in section 76-10-105-1 (buried near the bottom of the bill) which if passes as written, will create an online prohibition of electronic cigarettes for the state of Utah. This means that NO Utah resident will be legally able to purchase products online from anywhere in the world and bans Utah retailers from having the ability to compete with the 2000+ online retailers across the United States.

Senator Reid believes this will save consumers money and elevate state revenue through added sales tax by forcing residents to purchase in-state.  However, due to the highly restrictive zoning requirements which B&M locations are forced into, retailers are unable to open leaving online stores as the only available option.  The Utah Vapers believes this will force e-cigarette consumers in rural areas of the state without access to brick & mortar locations, back to smoking deadly cigarettes.

Call to Action - Online sales ban. SB0012 - Age limit for Tobacco and related products. If enacted, this bill would: Raise the legal age to purchase tobacco products (and by default e-cigarettes) to 21; Ban all online retail sales of electronic cigarette related products to and from Utah ...
